Prevalence and Predictors of Adverse Events Associated With Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) Inhibitors in Type 2 Diabetic Patients: A Cross-sectional Study.

Background: Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors are oral hypoglycemic agents widely prescribed in India despite safety concerns. However, studies focused on their safety profile are scarce, especially in South India.

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and predictors of adverse events (AEs) with DPP-4 inhibitors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Effectiveness of a Disease Management Program (DMP) in controlling the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease among hypertensives and diabetics.

Background: The occurrence rate of stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) will be 151 per million population in India in the coming years. Comorbidities like diabetes mellitus and hypertension are the usual triggers of CKD. Hence this study aimed to control the progression of CKD and to note the effectiveness of a structured education program that would help in the prevention of complications related to diabetes and hypertension.

Combined mucormycosis and candidiasis of the cecum presenting as a right iliac fossa mass in a patient with chronic kidney disease.

A combined infection with mucorales and candida is described involving the cecum in a patient with chronic kidney disease stage V, who was referred to us with history of diarrhea and abdominal pain of 2 weeks duration and had been found to have a tender mass in the right iliac fossa. Colonoscopy revealed an ulcerated and inflamed cecum and the biopsy from the ulcers showed a mixed infection with mucorales and candida. This case is reported because of the unusual site of presentation and the presence of mixed fungal infection.
