Objectives: This double-masked, cluster-randomized controlled trial examines whether point-of-use multiple micronutrient powder (MNP) compared with placebo fortification of preschool meals impacts child development and whether effects vary by preschool quality (primary outcome) and biomarkers of anemia and micronutrients (secondary outcomes).

Objective: To investigate the rapid and accurate method for the detection of dengue virus (DENV) by using nicking enzyme assisted strand-displacement amplification (SDA) combined with gold nanoparticles-based lateral flow strip.
Methods: Total RNA of the virus was extracted by using magnetic beads method and transcribed to cDNA for SDA detection system. Nicking enzyme-assisted method was used for detecting DENV, and agarose gel electrophoresis was used for analyzing the sensitivity of SDA amplification products.
Background & Objectives: Allostatic load (AL) is a cumulative measure of physiological deregulation and is influenced by multiple factors including nutrition. The objectives of the study were to assess AL among adolescent boys (15-19 yr) and delineate its association with psychological stress and micronutrient status.
Methods: A cross-sectional, school-based study was conducted among 370 adolescent boys of five higher secondary schools from Hyderabad, India.
Objective: The link between stress-related increases in inflammatory markers, hepcidin, and iron status are poorly understood, especially in developing countries like India. The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between adolescent life-event stress (ALES), inflammatory markers, and its association with hepcidin and biomarkers of iron status among adolescent boys.
Methods: Data pertaining to a subsample of 145 participants from a cross-sectional, school-based study recruiting 370 adolescent boys aged 15-19 years, from 5 schools in Hyderabad, India, were analyzed.
This article describes the development, design, and implementation of an integrated randomized double-masked placebo-controlled trial (Project Grow Smart) that examines how home/preschool fortification with multiple micronutrient powder (MNP) combined with an early child-development intervention affects child development, growth, and micronutrient status among infants and preschoolers in rural India. The 1-year trial has an infant phase (enrollment age: 6-12 months) and a preschool phase (enrollment age: 36-48 months). Infants are individually randomized into one of four groups: placebo, placebo plus early learning, MNP alone, and MNP plus early learning (integrated intervention), conducted through home visits.

We studied the bioavailability of iron and zinc from a rice-based meal in 16 adolescent boys and girls, 13-15 y of age, from 2 government-run residential schools. Participants were given a standardized rice meal (regular) and the same meal with 100 g of guava fruit (modified) with (57)Fe on 2 consecutive days.

In this context, C(32) has been taken as the dienophile and cis-1,3-butadiene has been considered as diene. Results obtained from the calculations on the Na(+)@C(32) and F(-)@C(32) have also been compared with that of C(32).

The carbon atoms in the single walled carbon nanotube (CNT) are systematically doped with B and N atoms. The effect of the encapsulation of F(-) in the boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) has also been investigated.

These rat colonies are perpetuated by crossing heterozygous littermates, since the obese phenotypes of both genders turned out be infertile. The present study revealed the reasons for this infertility.

Background: Micronized ferric pyrophosphate (MFPP) in extruded rice kernels mixed in a rice-based meal could be an effective strategy for improving iron status of children in India.
Objective: The objective was to determine the impact of MFPP supplied through extruded rice kernels in a rice-based meal on iron status of children participating in the midday meal (MDM) scheme in India.
Design: The sensory characteristics of cooked rice containing MFPP in extruded rice kernels, in vitro availability, and loss of iron during cooking from a typical MDM consisting of 125 g rice (dry weight) containing 19 mg Fe [fortified rice (FR); normal rice mixed with Ultra Rice (extruded kernels containing MFPP of ∼3.
Copper catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction (CuAAC) of non-fluorescent coumarin azides and sugar terminal alkynes afforded intense fluorescent 1,2,3-triazoles in 75-85% of yield. The photophysical properties of coumarin-sugar triazoles influenced greatly, upon introducing different substituents at 6th and 7th positions. The experimental observations were further supported by TD-DFT computational studies.

As expected, the stability of anion inside the fullerene depends on its size as well as on the size of the fullerene. Results show that the encapsulation of anions in larger fullerenes (smaller fullerene) is energetically favorable (not favorable).

The uptake of zinc showed a saturable and nonsaturable component, depending upon the media zinc concentrations. Intracellular depletion increased zinc uptake, whereas zinc loading did not.

Methods: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, matched-pair, cluster, randomization study design was used. Biochemical indicators of micronutrient status were evaluated at baseline and at the end of 14 mo on a subsample in nine matched pairs.
Objective: We evaluated the effect of iron supplementation on biochemical indicators of iron status, namely hemoglobin (Hb), serum ferritin (SF), and serum transferrin receptor (sTfR), during pregnancy.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted in 73 pregnant women who received daily supplements of 60 mg of iron and 500 microg of folic acid for 100 d from 19 wk of gestation. The indicators of iron status (Hb, SF, and sTfR) at 19, 27, and 35 wk of gestation were analyzed.
Lactase activity with age has been reported in a wide variety of population globally. However, most of these studies in human have ignored to assess age stratified lactose maldigestion. Therefore, the present study was planned to determine lactose maldigestion in different age groups of north Indians adults.

Retinol is transported in the blood bound to a specific carrier protein called retinol-binding protein (RBP), which in turn binds to another protein, transthyretin (TTR), a homotetrameric, thyroid-hormone-transporting protein. Binding of TTR increases the apparent molecular mass of RBP and thereby prevents glomerular filtration of RBP. Owing to their rapid turnover rates, plasma concentrations of these proteins are sensitive indicators and valuable diagnostic markers of vitamin A nutrition, protein energy malnutrition, infection and renal-tubule function.

Norethisterone enanthate (NET-En) is a well known intramuscular contraceptive drug. The long acting nature of this preparation when administered orally was evaluated in female rats and hamsters using fertility inhibition test and from the plasma levels of norethisterone (NET). An oral dose of 20-60 mg NET-En was administered to random groups of six female rats and hamsters and were mated after five and ten days with males of proven fertility.
