By strategically activating C-H bonds of amides and subsequent migratory insertion of π-bonds present in indole as reactive partner, we achieve syn-selective tetrahydro-5H-indolo[2,3-c]isoquinolin-5-one derivatives with excellent yields and enantiomeric excesses of up to >99 %. The developed method operates without a metal oxidant, relying solely on oxygen as the oxidant and employing an organic dye as a photocatalyst under irradiation.

Here, we report a case of mucormycosis of the frontal and ethmoid sinuses in a man in his mid-50s with a background of diabetes mellitus and COVID-19 infection requiring steroids and oxygen support. The infection had remained persistent despite initial debridement by functional endoscopic sinus surgery of the anterior frontal sinus wall and re-exploration, followed by debridement using the brow incision.

Malignant tumors of sinonasal region are rare and affect less than 1 in 100,000 people per year. They are histologically diverse group and potentially pose significant management problems due to their proximity to the orbit and intracranial cavity. Although squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is most common malignant tumor of paranasal cavity, tumors like adenocarcinoma, olfactory neuroblastoma, malignant melanoma, adenoid cystic carcinoma, sarcomas, haemoproliferative tumors, e.

The rarity of this occurrence as documented in the review of the literature provides for uncertainty about proper management. Our case represents a rare occurrence with the unique radiological finding that has implications for management.

Researchers have been using signal processing based methods to assess speech from Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and identify the contrasting features in comparison to speech from healthy controls (HC). The methodologies follow conventional approach of segmenting speech over a fixed window (≈25ms to 30ms) followed by feature extraction and classification. The proposed methodology uses MFCCs extracted from pitch synchronous and fixed window (25ms) based speech segments for classification using fine Gaussian support vector machines (SVM).

EEG is not only an essential tool for diagnosing diseases and disorders affecting the brain, but also helps us to achieve a better understanding of brain's activities and structures. EEG recordings are weak, nonlinear, and nonstationary signals that contain various noise and artifacts.

In the last decade, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) SU-8 polymeric cantilevers with piezoresistive readout combined with the advances in molecular recognition techniques have found versatile applications, especially in the field of chemical and biological sensing. Compared to conventional solid-state semiconductor-based piezoresistive cantilever sensors, SU-8 polymeric cantilevers have advantages in terms of better sensitivity along with reduced material and fabrication cost. In recent times, numerous researchers have investigated their potential as a sensing platform due to high performance-to-cost ratio of SU-8 polymer-based cantilever sensors.

To achieve the same, n-HAP is grafted with poly(d-lactic acid) (PDLA) via in situ ring-opening polymerization of d-lactide, followed by blending with poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA), which yields sPLA/n-HAP biocomposite with improved storage modulus even at temperatures higher than 140 °C. X-ray diffraction and calorimetric analysis ensure the presence of 100% stereocomplex crystallites of biocomposite along with significant improvement in the melting temperature (∼227 °C).

In this paper, we present the design and optimization of a rectangular piezoresistive composite silicon dioxide nanocantilever sensor. Unlike the conventional design approach, we perform the sensor optimization by not only considering its electro-mechanical response but also incorporating the impact of self-heating induced thermal drift in its terminal characteristics. Through extensive simulations first we comprehend and quantify the inaccuracies due to self-heating effect induced by the geometrical and intrinsic parameters of the piezoresistor.

The framework employs two types of intrusion detection approaches: (1) "downward-IDS (D-IDS)" to detect the abnormal behavior (intrusion) of the subordinate (member) nodes; and (2) "upward-IDS (U-IDS)" to detect the abnormal behavior of the cluster heads. By using analytical calculations, the optimum parameters for the D-IDS (number of maximum hops) and U-IDS (monitoring group size) of the framework are evaluated and presented.
