This article assesses the effectiveness of captopril, tetracycline, and ciprofloxacin as metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) inhibitors against New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM)-producing  Twenty-four well-characterized carbapenem-resistant isolates which produced NDM (  = 21) and Oxa-48-like enzymes (  = 3) were used to assess the inhibitors. The positive control organism was designed by cloning the NDM gene into pET-24a plasmid and transforming it into expression vector BL21. All the proposed inhibitors were assessed for their interaction with MBLs using checkerboard minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay with imipenem and meropenem.

Cognitive abilities are markers of brain development and psychopathology. Abilities, across executive, and social domains need better characterization over development, including factors that influence developmental change. This study is based on the cVEDA [Consortium on Vulnerability to Externalizing Disorders and Addictions] study, an Indian population based developmental cohort.

Background: Neuroelectrophysiological measures such as electroencephalograms (EEGs) in resting state and event-related potentials (ERPs) provide valuable information about the vulnerability and treatment-related changes in persons with alcoholism. This study examined the effectiveness of an Integrated Intervention Program for Alcoholism (IIPA) using electrophysiological measures.

Methods: Fifty individuals with early onset of alcohol dependence participated.

Background: Impulsivity and aberrant reward processing are the core features of substance use disorders, including alcoholism. The present study examined the effects of an Integrated Intervention Program for Alcoholism (IIPA) on impulsiveness and disadvantageous reward processing/risk-taking in persons with alcoholism.

Materials And Methods: The study adopted age- and education-matched (±1 year) randomized control design with the pre-post comparison.

Adapalene-loaded transfersome gel containing vitamin C as a combination therapy for the management of acne vulgaris was developed in the present study. The transfersome was prepared by reverse-phase evaporation, and the effect of various process parameters were investigated by the Design of Experiment (DOE) approach and optimized based on the particle size (PS), polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential (ZP), and entrapment efficiency (EE). The selected tranfersomes were further evaluated for their thermal behavior and morphology by transmission electron microscopy and turbidity measurements and incorporated into a gel with/without vitamin C.

Regulatory approvals for the marketing of medicinal products authorize medical practitioners to prescribe drugs to a group of patients that are defined within the license of the medicinal product. However, such prescriptions are carried out in a controlled manner. Prior to being approved, the medicinal product will have been evaluated in a population pool containing fewer than 5,000 patients and in a predesigned environment where several factors may be lacking, such as the absence of women of childbearing potential, geriatric patients and paediatric patients.

: Fixed-dose combination (FDC) medicines contain more than one approved active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), are manufactured as a fixed-dose and packed in a single dosage form. FDCs have been drawing attention from the pharmaceutical industries because of the government's ban on 328 irrational FDCs in September 2018. The Drug Technical Advisory Board (DTAB) recommended that 'there is no therapeutic justification' for the active ingredients in the banned FDCs and accordingly these combinations 'may involve a risk to human beings'.

Unlabelled: Bipolar disorder is a chronic psychiatric condition characterized by episodes of elevated/irritable and depressed moods resulting in the loss of more disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) than other major conditions. The neurocognitive impairments in these patients interfere with sustained goal-directed performance and achievement even during the euthymic phase of the illness.

Methodology: The study aimed to explore the neurocognitive profile of patients in their euthymic phase.

Objective: Alcoholism could be a core problem of self-regulatory failure. Several neurocognitive theories have hypothesized hypo-functioning or dysfunction of reflective (executive) system and heightened functioning of reactive (impulsive) system in self-regulatory failure implicated in drug addiction. Similarly, stress and affect dysregulation may breakdown self-regulation.

The current study was aimed to develop an amphiphilic drug-lipid nano-complex of rutin:egg phosphatidylcholine (EPC) to enhance its poor absorption and bioavailability, and investigated the impact of the complex on hepatoprotective and antioxidant activity. Rutin nano-complexes were prepared by solvent evaporation, salting out and lyophilisation methods and compared for the complex formation. For the selected lyophilisation method, principal solvent DMSO, co-solvent (t-butyl alcohol) and rutin:EPC ratios (1:1, 1:2 and 1:3) were selected after optimisation.

Context: There is scarce data on the prevalence of harm to adolescents from others' use of alcohol from India.

Aims: The aim is to study the prevalence of harm to school students from others' alcohol use in the district of Ernakulam, Kerala and examines its psychosocial correlates among victims.

Settings And Design: This was a cross-sectional survey of 7560 students of the age range of 12-19 years from 73 schools.

Introduction: The activating role of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep on epileptic cortex and conversely, the seizure remission brought about by antiepileptic medications, has been attributed to their effects on neuronal synchrony. This study aims to understand the role of neural synchrony of NREM sleep in promoting interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) in patients with epilepsy (PWE) by assessing the peri-IED phase synchrony during awake and sleep states. It also studies the role played by antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) on EEG desynchronization in the above cohort.

Introduction: Excessive cortical synchrony within neural ensembles has been implicated as an important mechanism driving epileptiform activity. The current study measures and compares background electroencephalographic (EEG) phase synchronization in patients having various types of epilepsies and healthy controls during awake and sleep stages.

Methods: A total of 120 patients with epilepsy (PWE) subdivided into 3 groups (juvenile myoclonic epilepsy [JME], temporal lobe epilepsy [TLE], and extra-temporal lobe epilepsy [Ex-TLE]; n = 40 in each group) and 40 healthy controls were subjected to overnight polysomnography.

Purpose: Detection of carbapenemases among Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) is important for both clinicians and infection control practitioners. The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute recommends Carba NP (CNP) as confirmatory test for carbapenemase production. The reagents required for CNP test are costly and hence the test cannot be performed on a routine basis.

Introduction: Mupirocin competitively inhibits bacterial isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase and inhibit bacterial protein synthesis. Widespread usage and over the counter availability of the drug has resulted in resistance among Staphylococcus species.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the overall prevalence of mupirocin resistance among staphylococci.
