Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a severe interstitial disease with a mean survival of about 2.5-5 years after diagnosis. Its pathophysiology is still a major challenge for science.

While the lungs are the most common site of infection, disseminated disease affecting multiple organs can occur, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Gastrointestinal histoplasmosis is usually diagnosed in the context of disseminated disease and can present in any part of the digestive system, the ileum being the most frequently affected.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute liver failure is a rare condition consisting of abrupt and extensive hepatocyte injury, leading to significant liver dysfunction associated with a high mortality. Liver transplantation is the most effective treatment in severe cases. The most common cause of acute liver failure in Western countries is drug-induced liver injury caused by prescription drugs and herbal and dietary supplements.

The present study aimed to evaluate the performance of MUST with MUAC in place of BMI to identify nutritional risk and predict prolonged hospitalisation and mortality in hospitalised patients.
Methods: The prospective cohort study involved ambulant patients aged ≥18 years who were admitted to the emergency department of a public hospital.
Aim: To examine the efficacy and safety of the 6 French (6F) RotarexS catheter system in patients with acute limb ischemia (ALI) involving thromboembolic occlusion of the proximal and mid-crural vessels.
Methods: The files of patients in our department with ALI between 2015 and 2017 were examined. In seven patients, the RotarexS catheter was used in the proximal segment of the crural arteries.
Objective: To evaluate the agreement between two nutritional screening tools (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool [MUST] and Nutritional Risk Screening-2002 [NRS-2002]) and Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) to identify nutritional risk in patients admitted to public emergency rooms.
Study Design: Cross-sectional study.
Methods: Patients aged ≥18 years who were admitted to an emergency room of a tertiary public hospital were evaluated.
Patients with critical limb ischemia necessitate immediate intervention to restore blood flow to the affected limb. Endovascular procedures are currently preferred for these patients. We describe the case of an 80-year-old female patient who presented to our department with ischemic rest pain and ulceration of the left limb.

Anti-inflammatory property of polyphenols and their effect on the metabolism of prostaglandins is not established in healthy humans. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of polyphenol supplementation in plasma levels of prostaglandin E and other markers of inflammation and oxidative stress in women using contraceptives. In this randomized double-blind clinical trial, women aged 25-35 years were selected.

However, the standard approach for endovascular treatment requires the administration of iodine contrast agents, which is problematic in patients with pre-existing renal disease and diabetes. Herein, we describe a case of a CO angiography guided endovascular thrombectomy of the superficial femoral artery (SFA) in a young patient with critical limb ischemia.

As main reason a disturbed synthesis of erythropoietin (EPO) has been suggested, the pathogenesis, however, is unclear. The clinical significance of metabolic control for the hemoglobin and EPO levels was investigated.

For some years different analogue insulins have become available. Their pharmacological characteristics in renal failure have not as yet been investigated in detail.

Introduction: Pharmacological treatment of patients with primary osteoporosis does not prevent pain and impaired activity of patients with painful vertebral fractures. Therefore, we evaluated the clinical outcome after kyphoplasty in patients with vertebral fractures and associated chronic pain for >12 months.
