Oral hygiene education for patients is fundamental in preventive-promotional dentistry. The disinfection of toothbrushes (TBs) must be integrated into this context due to their proximity to contaminant sources that make them vulnerable to cross infection in homes. The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of domestic techniques for disinfection of TBs.

During a survey in wetlands from southern Lima, Peru, two non-O1/non-O139 Vibrio cholerae isolates were obtained from samples collected from an American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus) and a Wren-like Rushbird (Phleocryptes melanops). Vibrio cholerae was identified by amplification and sequencing of 16S rRNA, differentially grown on CHROMagar Vibrio media, and confirmed by ompW amplification. Isolates were confirmed to be non-O1/non-O139 serotypes and to lack the ctxA gene as inferred using PCR.

Several bacterial genera with antagonistic activity against pathogenic organisms have been isolated in pure culture from the gut of the Peruvian scallop, Argopecten purpuratus. One strain shows a broad inhibitory activity against aquaculture pathogenic bacterial strains. In this communication, we announce the draft genome sequence of sp.

Hydrothermal vent activity is often associated with submarine volcanism. Here, we investigated the presence of microorganisms related to hydrothermal activity in the Orca seamount. Data profiling of the 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequences revealed a diversity pattern dominated mainly by the phyla , , , and .

Despite the importance of the Peruvian scallop as a major cultivated species, information on its microbiota is limited. Here, we provide a high-throughput sequencing data analysis of 16S rRNA gene amplicons from the distal intestine of Geographical and seasonal variation of the indigenous gut microbiota is shown.

A new strain of sp., strain RFCAC02, was isolated from the gut of the Pacific chub mackerel This strain produces a variety of secondary metabolites. Further bioinformatic analysis revealed the presence of biosynthetic gene clusters putatively coding for compounds related to the polycyclic tetramate macrolactams (PTMs).

A new strain, V7A, was isolated from the intestinal tract of the Peruvian scallop (). Strain V7A clusters within the Mediterranei clade of the genus and has the potential to produce bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances (BLIS). Here, we report the draft genome sequence of strain V7A.

A new strain, V1B, was isolated from the intestinal tract of the scallop Strain V1B is closely related to the species BFLP-10, which has been characterized as showing antagonistic activity against pathogenic sp. We report here the draft genome of the isolated sp. strain V1B.
