Surgical treatment of coexisting intra and extralobar sequestration in an infant.

Pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital malformation in which a nonfunctional segment of lung tissue has no communication with the tracheobronchial tree and does not participate in gas exchange. We present a rare case of a 20-month old female with extralobar pulmonary sequestration that was diagnosed at birth. The patient was also found to have a coexisting intralobar sequestration, found during surgery.

A Unique Case of Mesenteric Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Presenting as an Acute Abdomen.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors in the digestive tract and arise from the interstitial cells of Cajal in the mesenteric plexus. These tumors can originate in any part of the GI tract; however, a higher burden has been observed in the stomach and small intestines. Mesenteric GISTs are exceedingly rare, with unique clinicopathological features and a poorer prognosis.

Testicular choriocarcinoma: a rare diagnosis in a patient presenting with hemorrhagic shock.

Testicular choriocarcinoma is a rare and aggressive subtype of nonseminomatous germ cell tumors accounting for <1% of all germ cell tumors. We report an unusual case of testicular choriocarcinoma metastasis that presents as hemorrhagic shock. Diagnosis was unsuspected and difficult with vast other potential causes.

Predicting Difficult Airway Intubation Based on Maxillofacial Trauma: A Retrospective Study.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to determine which types of facial injuries in traumatic patients' wounds cause difficult intubation for anesthesiology team. By anticipating potential complications with airway management, the surgeons can be better prepared for emergent cricothyrotomy if needed. This could include prior to the planned procedure in the operating room (OR) as well as in emergent conditions in trauma bay.

Gastric Perforation with Omental Patch Repair: A Rare Complication of Pulmonary Resuscitation in COVID-19 Pneumonia.

A 71-year-old male, diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), was admitted to the medical-surgical floor for supportive treatment. The patient received bag-mask ventilation (BMV) secondary to severe hypoxia and reendotracheal intubation in the hospital on day eleven. A chest X-ray following reintubation noted concern for intra-abdominal air.

Jejunal Intussusception: A Rare Adult Presentation of Lymphoid Hyperplasia.

A 21-year-old African-American male presented to the emergency room with a sudden diffuse onset abdominal pain of one day duration. CT findings revealed mild telescoping of loops of small bowel and mesenteric fat in the left mid abdomen with no apparent masses. The patient underwent an exploratory laparoscopy revealing intussusception of the mid jejunum.
