The differential production cross sections of B^{±} mesons are measured via the exclusive decay channels B^{±}→J/ψK^{±}→μ^{+}μ^{-}K^{±} as a function of transverse momentum in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV per nucleon pair with the CMS detector at the LHC. The pp(Pb-Pb) data set used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 28.

Over the past fifty years, society has become aware of the importance of a healthy diet in terms of human fitness and longevity. More recently, the concept of the beneficial effects of certain components of our diet and other compounds, that are consumed often by different cultures in various parts of the world, has become apparent. These "healthy" components of our diet are often referred to as nutraceuticals and they can prevent/suppress: aging, bacterial, fungal and viral infections, diabetes, inflammation, metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases and have other health-enhancing effects.

PI-PLCβ1 is involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) pathogenesis. Moreover, the increased activity of PI-PLCβ1 reduces the expression of PKC-α, which, in turn, delays the cell proliferation and is linked to erythropoiesis. Lenalidomide is currently used in low-risk patients with MDS and del(5q), where it can suppress the del(5q) clone and restore normal erythropoiesis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study measures normalized double-differential cross sections for top quark pair production in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV using data from the CMS experiment at the LHC, covering an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb⁻¹.
  • The analysis focuses on the dilepton final state, examining how the production cross section varies with different kinematic variables of the top quark and associated systems.
  • The findings align with theoretical predictions from quantum chromodynamics and Monte Carlo simulations, especially when incorporating the latest parton distribution functions, indicating a notable influence on the gluon distribution.

Article Synopsis
  • A new measurement of the top quark mass is reported, focusing on single top quark events produced through the electroweak channel using data from the CMS detector at the LHC with a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV.
  • The analysis involves reconstructing top quark candidates via their decay into a W boson (which decays to a muon and a neutrino) and a b quark, thus enhancing the sample purity and reducing interference from top quark pair production.
  • The final measurement aligns with the current world average, providing a unique contribution to future averages by reducing systematic uncertainties linked to single top quark processes.

Searches are presented for direct production of top or bottom squark pairs in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC. Two searches, based on complementary techniques, are performed in all-jet final states that are characterized by a significant imbalance in transverse momentum. An additional search requires the presence of a charged lepton isolated from other activity in the event.

Natural products or nutraceuticals have been shown to elicit anti-aging, anti-cancer and other health-enhancing effects. A key target of the effects of natural products may be the regulation of microRNA (miR) expression which results in cell death or prevents aging, diabetes, cardiovascular and other diseases. This review will focus on a few natural products, especially on resveratrol (RES), curcumin (CUR) and berberine (BBR).

The aim of this study was the shelf life extension of whole-wheat breadsticks through the addition of a rosemary extract and packaging under nitrogen. Shelf life was studied at four temperatures (20, 27, 35, 48°C) for up to 200 storage days. The minimal changes observed in moisture, water activity and texture of the samples, coupled with the high peroxide values (13-539meqO/kg) measured at the end of storage, and the exponential increase of hexanal concentrations (up to 13-34mg/kg) confirmed that quality decay of whole-wheat breadsticks is mainly associated to lipid oxidation.
