Efforts are being made globally to improve the evaluation and understanding of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Recognition of their impact on human health and the environment has stimulated attention and research in this field. Various stakeholders, including scientists, regulatory agencies, policymakers, and industry representatives, are collaborating to develop robust methodologies and guidelines for assessing these disruptors.

Ocular degeneration, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, is a major public health challenge, as it affects the quality of life of millions of people worldwide and, in its advanced stages, leads to blindness. Ocular degeneration, although it can affect different parts of the eye, shares common characteristics such as oxysterols and the P2X7 receptor. Indeed, oxysterols, which are cholesterol derivatives, are associated with ocular degeneration pathogenesis and trigger inflammation and cell death pathways.

Many targets have been identified but to date, implication of purinergic receptor P2X7 activation has not yet been investigated. We managed to evaluate the protective effect on P2X7 activation by plant extracts used as anti-inflammatory in European folk medicine by the YO-PRO-1 uptake dye in vitro bioassay.

Insulinomas, with an incidence of 4 cases per million individuals per year, remain amongst the most frequent functional neuroendocrine tumors. The usual diameter of insulinomas usually remains under 3 cm of major axis. However, 44 exceptional cases of "giant insulinomas", have been reported worldwide, generally exceeding 9 cm in major axis.

The oncologic impact of therapeutic delays is unknown.
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the survival impact of delaying surgery and CT.
Background: Computed tomography (CT) scan with rectal contrast enema (RCE-CT) could increase the detection rate of anastomotic leaks (AL) in the early postoperative period following colorectal surgery, compared to CT scan without RCE. The aim of this study was to assess the benefit of RCE-CT for the early diagnosis of AL following colorectal surgery.
Methods: Patients who had a RCE-CT for suspected AL in the early postoperative period following colorectal surgery with anastomosis between January 2012 and July 2019 at the Dijon University Hospital were retrospectively included.

Chlorpyrifos is a pesticide that is toxic to human health and has been banned for the past decade. Due to its persistent and bioaccumulative properties, chlorpyrifos is still present in soil. Pregnant women can be exposed to chlorpyrifos through drinking water and herbal products, such as essential oils (EOs), resulting in adverse effects to the mother and fetus.

After esophagectomy, the gravity and the fear of anastomotic leak may be an obstacle to generalization of such protocols. C-reactive protein (CRP) might be a reliable tool to identify patients at low risk of anastomotic leak after esophagectomy, so that they can be safely included in a fast-track program.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFForskolin, used in folk medicine since ancient times, is now available as a dietary supplement, with an indication as a fat burner and appetite suppressant. However, the safety of forskolin is poorly documented especially for pregnant women. The question that we raised is what about the safety of forskolin in pregnant women? As the placenta, an endocrine organ, is the key organ of pregnancy, we evaluated the in vitro placental toxicity of forskolin.

Our aim was to explore and compare the placental toxicity and potential endocrine disrupting effects of niaouli, orange, tea tree, wintergreen and ylang-ylang EOs, and their key compounds: 4-terpineol, 1,8-cineol, limonene, methyl salicylate and benzyl salicylate.

EDCs induce multiple adverse effects, not only on endocrine organs, but also on non-endocrine organs, with the P2X7 cell death receptor being potentially the common key element. Our objective was first to investigate mechanisms of EDCs toxicity in both endocrine and non-endocrine cells through P2X7 receptor activation, and second, to compare the level of activation in lung, skin and placental cells.

The prognosis for patients with peritoneal metastases remains poor and the role of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is controversial. The aim was to clarify the impact of gastric PCC with peritoneal metastases treated by CRS with or without HIPEC.

Despite their detection in placenta and amniotic fluids, the effects of bisphenols on human placental cells have not been characterized. Our objective was to explore in vitro and to compare the toxicity of BPA to its substitutes BPF and BPS to highlight their potential risks for placenta and then pregnancy.

The current standard repair includes the use of a synthetic mesh to prevent recurrence. However, the use of a synthetic mesh in a contaminated field carries a higher risk of mesh infection.

Objective: This study aimed to understand the relationship between preoperative inflammation and the prognosis of colorectal cancer and to elucidate whether the impact of inflammation on cancer prognosis was related to an increased risk of surgical infection or was independent of it.
Methods: Patients who underwent elective colorectal cancer surgery between November 2011 and April 2014 were included in a prospective database (IMACORS).
: Community pharmacists are among the frontline health professionals who manage patients with an opioid-related disorder (ORD). Pharmacists frequently have a negative attitude toward these patients, which could have a negative impact on their management. However, education on ORD may improve the attitude of future healthcare professionals.

And yet, placenta toxicology has not become a fully-fledged toxicology field. Because placenta is very often seen only as a barrier between the mother and the fetus, there is a lack and therefore a need for an experimental human model with technical recommendations to study placenta toxicology.

The aim of this study was to assess the preoperative body composition profiles as predictive factors for postoperative, oncologic, and inflammation outcomes.
Objectives: We sought to assess the impact of body composition profiles on short- and long-term outcomes and on postoperative inflammatory response in a clinical setting for patients following curative intent surgery for colorectal cancer.
Introduction: Anastomotic fistula is the most fearsome complication following colorectal surgery. Numerous studies have demonstrated the interest of postoperative CRP assay as an early diagnostic marker. Must the critical threshold for biological inflammatory markers remain the same, whether resection be colic or rectal?
Patients And Method: This is a study based on a cohort constituted between 2011 and 2014, including 497 patients with planned colorectal resection.
