The Impact of Sex Ratio Perceptions on Condom Use Attitudes and Behaviors among Black Women in the United States.

Explore how perceptions of the sex ratio in Black communities' impact heterosexual Black women's confidence in negotiating condom use with sex partners and condom use at last sex. Using log-binomial regression models, we estimated the association between perception of the sex ratio and condom negotiation self-efficacy and condom use at last sex. Perception of the sex ratio among Black women surveyed was not significantly associated with condom negotiation self-efficacy and condom use at last sex.

Association of Black Women's Perceptions of the Sex Ratio to Their Attitudes Toward and Experiences of Intimate Partner Violence.

This study explores how perceptions of the availability of male dating partners (sex ratio) affect heterosexual Black women's tolerance and experiences with intimate partner violence (IPV). Evolutionary behavioral models suggest that when the sex ratio is high (more available men than women), violence against women is likely to occur, whereas the Guttentag-Secord model suggests that when there is a surplus of men, violence against women is likely to occur. Testing these theories, results show perception of a high sex ratio was significantly positively associated with experiences of IPV in the past 12 months and more tolerant attitudes toward IPV.

Sexual Behaviors, Experiences of Sexual Violence, and Substance Use among Women Who inject Drugs: Accessing Health and Prevention Services in Puerto Rico.

Objective: People who inject drugs (PWID) face numerous gender-specific health risks, which increase their susceptibility to adverse outcomes, including violence. There is a need for research on female PWID to capture their unique experiences and understand behavioral and gender-based differences. This study aimed to understand which drug use and sexual behaviors are the most prevalent among female PWID accessing health services in Puerto Rico and to gather preliminary information on those individuals' experiences of sexual violence.

THE PERCEPTIONS AND REFLECTIONS ON RACIAL/ETHNICITY DIVERSITY IN OUTDOOR RECREATION.

The collaborative, student-led research team was concerned with race and ethnic diversity in outdoor recreation and explored this issue by interviewing outdoor instructors. Video action research and pedagogy was used based on characteristics of critical thinking, research, reflection, and social justice. The result indicate the disparity of outdoor recreation participation and factors contributing to it.
