A novel halophilic archaeon, designated strain WIIAL99T, was isolated from Lake Meyghan, a hypersaline lake in Iran. Cells of strain WIIAL99T were non-motile, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Strain WIIAL99T required at least 2.

Natrinema soli sp. nov., a novel halophilic archaeon isolated from a hypersaline wetland.

An extremely halophilic archaeon, designated strain 5-3T, was isolated from a soil sample of Meighan wetland in Iran. Strain 5-3T was strictly aerobic, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and ovoid.

Nocardia halotolerans sp. nov., a halotolerant actinomycete isolated from saline soil.

A novel halotolerant actinomycete, strain Chem15(T), was isolated from soil around Inche-Broun hypersaline wetland; its taxonomic position was determined based on a polyphasic approach. Strain Chem15(T) was strictly aerobic and tolerated NaCl up to 12.5%.

Halovarius luteus gen. nov., sp. nov., an extremely halophilic archaeon from a salt lake.

An extremely halophilic archaeon, strain DA50T, was isolated from a brine sample of Urmia lake, a hypersaline environment in north-west Iran. Strain DA50T was orange-pigmented, motile, pleomorphic and required at least 2.5 M NaCl but not MgCl2 for growth.

Blind source separation in characterizing ECG pre-shock waveforms during Ventricular Fibrillation.

Ventricular Fibrillation (VF) is a cardiac arrhythmia for which the only available treatment option is defibrillation by electrical shock. Existing literature indicates that VF could be the manifestation of different sources controlling the heart with different degrees of organization. In this work we test the hypothesis that the pre-shock waveforms of successful and unsuccessful shock outcomes could be related to the number of independent sources present in these waveforms.

Cardiomyocyte marker expression in a human lymphocyte cell line using mouse cardiomyocyte extract.

Cell transplantation shows potential for the treatment of cardiac diseases. Embryonic stem cells, cord blood and mesenchymal stem cells have been suggested as sources for transplantation therapy. Because of some technical limitations with the use of stem cells, transdifferentiation of fully differentiated cells is a potentially useful alternative.
