Methoxyflurane for Relief of Procedural Pain in Burn Patients: A Prospective Single-Centre Evaluation Study.

: Procedural pain in burn patients continues to be a major problem. Frequently used analgesics, such as opioids, may have various side effects, including respiratory depression, nausea, and vomiting. Inhaled methoxyflurane has been used in the pre-hospital setting for trauma-related pain.

A targeted multiplex mass spectrometry method for quantitation of abundant matrix and cellular proteins in formalin-fixed paraffin embedded arterial tissue.

Assessment of proteins in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue traditionally hinges on immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting. These methods are far from optimal for quantitative studies and not suitable for large-scale testing of multiple protein panels. In this study, we developed and optimised a novel targeted isotope dilution mass spectrometry (MS)-based method for FFPE samples, designed to quantitate 17 matrix and cytosolic proteins abundantly present in arterial tissue.

Self-rated health and chronic inflammation are related and independently associated with hospitalization and long-term mortality in the general population.

The subjective indicator of health self-rated health (SRH) and the chronic inflammation biomarker soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) are both robust predictors of healthcare use and mortality. However, the possible relationship between SRH and suPAR in the assessment of hospitalization and mortality risk is unknown. We used data from the Danish population-based Inter99 cohort to examine the association between SRH and suPAR and test their individual and combined associations with 2-year risk of acute hospitalization and 5- and 15-year mortality.

Coronary Calcium Scoring Improves Risk Prediction in Patients With Suspected Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease.

Background: In patients with suspected obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD), the risk factor-weighted clinical likelihood (RF-CL) model and the coronary artery calcium score-weighted clinical likelihood (CACS-CL) model improves the identification of obstructive CAD compared with basic pretest probability (PTP) models.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic value of the new models.

Methods: The incidences of myocardial infarction and death were stratified according to categories by the RF-CL and CACS-CL and compared with categories by the PTP model.

Immunohistochemical Characteristics of Atypical Fibroxanthoma and Pleomorphic Dermal Sarcoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Differentiating atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) from pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS) remains a challenge. Increasing the use of immunohistochemistry has led to the proposal of many immunomarkers that may aid in the diagnosis of AFX and PDS. In this meta-analysis, we investigate the immunohistochemical characteristics of AFX and PDS based on suggested immunomarkers in the literature.

Opioid prescriber responsibility: A Danish drug utilization study.

Aims: We describe the distribution of prescribers responsible for opioid initiation and maintenance (general practice, hospital prescribers and other prescribers) in Denmark.

Methods: We leveraged data on opioid fills from a 20% sample of all Danes alive during 2000-2021.

Results: Overall, general practitioners were responsible for most treatment initiation (74% during 2000-2021) and maintenance treatment (92%).

Short- and Long-Term Self-Reported Symptoms in Adolescents Aged 12-19 Years after Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 Compared to Adolescents Not Vaccinated-A Danish Retrospective Cohort Study.

This study investigated self-reported short- and long-term symptoms among adolescents receiving the BNT162b2 (Pfizer/BioNTech) vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 and those who did not. A retrospective cohort study based on Danish national survey (collected between 20 July and 15 September 2021) and register data was conducted. Differences in short-term (<14 days) and long-term (>two months) symptoms were explored using logistic regression adjusted for confounders.

Comparison of onset time, duration of action, and intubating conditions after cisatracurium 0.15 mg/kg in young and elderly patients.

Introduction: Tracheal intubation during anesthesia can be facilitated by the neuromuscular blocking agent cisatracurium. However, limited data exists about onset time, duration of action and effect on intubating conditions in elderly patients above 80 years of age. We hypothesized that elderly patients would present a longer onset time and duration of action compared to younger adults.

Comparing restrictive versus liberal oxygen strategies for trauma patients - the TRAUMOX2 trial: protocol for a randomised clinical trial.

Introduction: Supplemental oxygen is commonly used in trauma patients, although it may lead to hyperoxaemia that has been associated with pulmonary complications and increased mortality. The primary objective of this trial, TRAUMOX2, is to compare a restrictive versus liberal oxygen strategy the first 8 hours following trauma.

Methods And Analysis: TRAUMOX2 is an investigator-initiated, international, parallel-grouped, superiority, outcome assessor-blinded and analyst-blinded, randomised, controlled, clinical trial.

Improving Health and Diabetes Self-Management in Immigrants with Type 2 Diabetes Through a Co-Created Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Intervention.

To examine the impact of a co-created culturally sensitive diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) intervention on the physical and mental health of immigrants with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Pre- and post-test among people with T2D whose primary language was Urdu, Arabic or Turkish (n = 97). Participants were offered a six-week intervention based on a person-centred approach using research-based dialogue tools to facilitate learning and reflection, which was developed in co-creation with immigrants and healthcare professionals.

Treatment of Vitamin K Deficiency in Hemodialysis Patients - A Pilot Study Comparing Menaquinone-7 Tablets and a Vitamin K Rich Diet.

Purpose: Vitamin K deficiency and hence a high level of plasma dephosphorylated undercarboxylated matrix Gla protein (dp-ucMGP) is frequent in patients on hemodialysis. This group is recommended to restrict their potassium intake which often leads to restriction of vitamin K rich foods. A menaquinone-7 (MK-7) supplement has been shown to decrease dp-ucMGP, but it has yet to be examined if a vitamin K rich diet could be equally effective.

Serum keratin-18 detects hepatic inflammation and predicts progression in compensated alcohol-associated liver disease.

Alcohol-associated liver fibrosis accumulates over decades, driven by hepatic inflammation and cell death. We investigated the diagnostic accuracy of keratin-18 degradation, measured using serum M30 and M65 levels, and the ActiTest for hepatic inflammatory activity in patients with compensated alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). Furthermore, we evaluated the prognostic accuracy of markers for liver-related events and all-cause mortality.

Comparison of vaccine-induced antibody neutralization against SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern following primary and booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has, as of July 2022, infected more than 550 million people and caused over 6 million deaths across the world. In the present study, we performed a direct comparative analysis of four COVID-19 vaccines: BNT162b2 (Pfizer/BioNTech), mRNA-1273 (Moderna), ChAdOx1 (Oxford/AstraZeneca) and Ad26.

Improving risk indexes for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias for use in midlife.

Knowledge of a person's risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRDs) is required to triage candidates for preventive interventions, surveillance, and treatment trials. ADRD risk indexes exist for this purpose, but each includes only a subset of known risk factors. Information missing from published indexes could improve risk prediction.

Outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection among patients with common variable immunodeficiency and a matched control group: A Danish nationwide cohort study.

The risk of severe adult respiratory coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and the course of the infection among individuals with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) relative to the general population have been a matter of debate. We conducted a Danish nationwide study comparing the timing of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, the risk of first confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, re-infection, and the outcome of infection among individuals with CVID relative to an age- and gender matched control group. Cox regression was used to calculate incidence rate ratios.

Complete response to anti-interleukin-5 biologics in a real-life setting: results from the nationwide Danish Severe Asthma Register.

Background: Phase III regulatory trials show that anti-interleukin (IL)-5 biologics efficiently reduce exacerbations and the use of maintenance oral corticosteroids (mOCS) in patients with severe eosinophilic asthma. However, patients eligible for these trials differ significantly compared with real-life severe asthma populations. Therefore, our aim was to explore efficacy in a real-life setting.

Selective inhibition of soluble tumor necrosis factor signaling reduces abdominal aortic aneurysm progression.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is pathologically elevated in human abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). Non-selective TNF inhibition-based therapeutics are approved for human use but have been linked to several side effects. Compounds that target the proinflammatory soluble form of TNF (solTNF) but preserve the immunomodulatory capabilities of the transmembrane form of TNF (tmTNF) may prevent these side effects.

Magnamosis for long gap esophageal atresia: Minimally invasive "fatal attraction".

Background: Aim of study is to report our preliminary experience with magnetic anastomosis (magnamosis) treating long-gap esophageal atresia (LGEA), the most challenging condition of esophageal atresia continuum. Magnamosis has been reported in 20 patients worldwide as an innovative and marginally invasive option.

Methods: Prospective evaluation of all LGEA patients treated with magnamosis was performed (study registration number: 2535/2021).

Re-evalution of the measurement of haptoglobin in human plasma samples.

Haptoglobin (Hp) is an abundant plasma protein scavenging hemoglobin (Hb) CD163 on macrophages. This process consumes Hp, which therefore negatively correlates to hemolysis. However, exact measurements of Hp plasma levels are complicated by different phenotypes (Hp1-1, Hp2-1, and Hp2-2) forming different oligomeric states with differences in immunoreactivity.

Haptoglobin-related protein in human plasma correlates to haptoglobin concentrations and phenotypes.

Haptoglobin-related protein (Hpr) is a plasma protein with high sequence similarity to haptoglobin (Hp). Like Hp, Hpr also binds hemoglobin (Hb) with high affinity, but it does not bind to the Hb-Hp receptor CD163 on macrophages. The Hpr concentration is markedly lower than Hp in plasma and its regulation is not understood.

Outcomes following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection among individuals with and without HIV in Denmark.

Objective: To compare the risk of a positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) test and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outcomes in people with HIV (PWH) with the general population, and estimate the association with vaccination status.

Design: A nationwide, population based, matched cohort study.

Methods: We included all Danish PWH ≥18 years ( n  = 5276) and an age and sex-matched general population cohort ( n  = 42 308).

Time to CT scan for patients with acute severe neurological symptoms: a quality assurance study.

Emergent brain computed tomography (CT) scan allows for identification of patients presenting with acute severe neurological symptoms in whom medical and surgical interventions may be lifesaving. The aim of this study was to evaluate if time to CT from arrival at the emergency department exceeded 30 min in patients admitted with acute severe neurological symptoms. This was a retrospective register-based quality assurance study.
