SARS-CoV-2 infection and risk of subsequent demyelinating diseases: national register-based cohort study.

Demyelinating diseases including multiple sclerosis are associated with prior infectious exposures, so we assessed whether SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with subsequent diagnoses of non-multiple sclerosis demyelinating diseases and multiple sclerosis. All residents of Sweden aged 3-100 years were followed between 1 January 2020 and 30 November 2022, excluding those with demyelinating disease prior to 2020, comprising 9 959 818 individuals divided into uninfected and those who were infected were categorized into those with and without hospital admission for the infection as a marker of infection severity. Cox regression assessed the risk of two separate outcomes: hospital diagnosed non-multiple sclerosis demyelinating diseases of the CNS and multiple sclerosis.

IcanSDM (I can shared decision making) is a brief measure to investigate healthcare professionals' perception of shared decision making approaches to their practices.

Time and ADHD in Danish Families: Mutual Affect Through Rhythm.

Based on fieldwork in Danish families living with ADHD, we expand on Nielsen's insight that ADHD is experienced as a state of desynchronization by showing how family members' rhythms mutually affect each other. We argue that ADHD is not only a biological and psychiatric condition, but also a temporal and socially responsive phenomenon. The intensity of ADHD is influenced by mutual affect in families and by general life circumstances.

Vaccine-induced correlate of protection against fatal COVID-19 in older and frail adults during waves of neutralization-resistant variants of concern: an observational study.

Background: To inform future preventive measures including repeated vaccinations, we have searched for a clinically useful immune correlate of protection against fatal COVID-19 among nursing homes residents.

Methods: We performed repeated capillary blood sampling with analysis of S-binding IgG in an open cohort of nursing home residents in Sweden. We analyzed immunological and registry data from 16 September 2021 to 31 August 2022 with follow-up of deaths to 30 September 2022.

Potential drivers of human tick-borne encephalitis in the Örebro region of Sweden, 2010-2021.

Incidence of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) has increased during the last years in Scandinavia, but the underlying mechanism is not understood. TBE human case data reported between 2010 and 2021 were aggregated into postal codes within Örebro County, south-central Sweden, along with tick abundance and environmental data to analyse spatial patterns and identify drivers of TBE. We identified a substantial and continuing increase of TBE incidence in Örebro County during the study period.

The Analgesic Effect of Resistance Training after Breast Cancer (ANTRAC): A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objective: The objective of this blinded parallel-arm randomized controlled trial was to investigate the effect of resistance training (RT) on pain, maximal strength, and shoulder function in breast cancer survivors (BCS) with persistent pain after treatment.

Methods: Twenty BCS with self-reported pain ≥1.5 yr after treatment were randomized to an experimental group (EXP, n = 10), who performed a supervised progressive total body heavy RT program 2 times per week for 12 wk, or a control group (CON, n = 10), who was instructed to continue their everyday life.

Background: Although interest in Patient and Public Involvement in health-related research is growing, there seems to be a lack of guidance supporting researchers in deciding on methods and levels for Patient and Public Involvement in health-related research throughout the research process. Furthermore, the numerous definitions, methods, and frameworks make it challenging for researchers new to this field to decide on the most appropriate approach for their project.

Methods: This study aimed to develop and test guidance for researchers deciding on approaches, levels, and methods for engaging patient partners in health-related research.

Early prediction of blood stream infection in a prospectively collected cohort.

Background: Blood stream infection (BSI) and sepsis are serious clinical conditions and identification of the disease-causing pathogen is important for patient management. The RISE (Rapid Identification of SEpsis) study was carried out to collect a cohort allowing high-quality studies on different aspects of BSI and sepsis. The aim of this study was to identify patients at high risk for BSI who might benefit most from new, faster, etiological testing using neutrophil to lymphocyte count ratio (NLCR) and Shapiro score.

The purpose of this study was to explore the level of inter- and intra-individual variability in the kinematic profiles of the back squat movement among skilled weightlifters. Ten competitive weightlifters volunteered for participation in this study. Barbell velocity (V) and angular velocity of the ankle (ω), knee (ω) and hip joint (ω) were obtained by kinematic recording of six trials at 90% of 1RM in the back squat.

The inflammasome is a multiprotein complex that mediates caspase-1 activation with subsequent maturation of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. The NLRP3 inflammasome is known to be activated by Staphylococcus aureus, one of the leading causes of bacteremia worldwide. Inflammasome activation and regulation in response to bacterial infection have been found to be of importance for a balanced host immune response.

Caring for young people with moderate to severe psoriasis: an interpretive description of parental perspectives.

Psoriasis often sets on during childhood or adolescence, when parents have great importance for the young people's self-management, well-being, and quality of life. The aim of this study was to understand parents' perspectives on young people's daily life with psoriasis in order to improve adolescents' self-management. Adopting interpretive, description methodology (ID), focus group discussion, and interviews were conducted with eight parents of adolescents with psoriasis.

Practices for making residents' wishes fit institutional constraints: a case of manipulation in dementia care.

Purpose: The study aims to show how practices of manipulation are used by a member of staff in a care situation where the member of staff has to perform two tasks at once.

Method: The study is an ethnomethodological conversation analytic single-case study of a care situation in residential dementia care. The analyses are based on video recordings and observations conducted during 9 months of fieldwork at a residential care facility for persons with dementia.

Purpose: Routinized activities create security for persons with dementia (PWDs) and help care staff manage everyday tasks, but care staff also assist PWDs with constructing routines during their leisure time. This paper investigates how a PWD negotiates how to use the common room in a dementia ward as a social space with co-present staff members, other residents, and a visiting researcher.
