Background: Existing self-management and behavioural interventions for diabetes vary widely in their content, and their sustained long-term effectiveness is uncertain. Autonomy supporting interventions may be a prerequisite to achieve 'real life' patient engagement and more long-term improvement through shared decision-making and collaborative goal setting. Autonomy supportive interventions aim to promote that the person with diabetes' motivation is autonomous meaning that the person strives for goals they themselves truly believe in and value.

The search for diagnostic biomarkers for pulmonary embolism (PE) has mainly been focused on blood samples. Exhaled breath condensate (EBC) is a possible source for biomarkers specific for chronic lung diseases and cancer, yet no previous studies have investigated the potential of EBC for diagnosis of PE. The protein content in the EBC is very low, and efficient condensing of the EBC is important in order to obtain high quality samples for protein analysis.

Despite a variety of tools employed to assess different dimensions of palliative care, there is no consensus on a set of core outcomes to be measured in the last days of life. In order to optimise decision making in clinical practice and comparability of interventional studies, we aim to identify and propose a set of core outcomes for the care of the dying person.

This comprehensive review of the extant literature, evaluated all in vivo studies, to elucidate the potential protective and therapeutic effect of MSCs in acute thermal skin burns.
Methods: PubMed was systematically searched, according to PRISMA guidelines, and all relevant preclinical and clinical studies were included according to pre-specified eligibility criteria.
Purpose: We explored whether severe or critical hypotension can be predicted, based on patient and resuscitation characteristics in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. We also explored the association of hypotension with mortality and neurological outcome.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a post hoc analysis of the TTH48 study (NCT01689077), where 355 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients were randomized to targeted temperature management (TTM) treatment at 33 °C for either 24 or 48 h.
Background: People of low socioeconomic position (SEP) are disproportionately affected by type 2 diabetes (T2D), partly due to unhealthy eating patterns that contribute to inadequate disease self-management and prognosis. Digital technologies have the potential to provide a suitable medium to facilitate diabetes education, support self-management, and address some of the barriers to healthy eating, such as lack of nutritional knowledge or shopping or cooking skills, in this target group.
Objective: This study aims to test the feasibility, appeal, and potential effectiveness of EatSmart, a 12-week, evidence-based, theoretically grounded, fully automated web-based and mobile-delivered healthy eating behavior change program to help disadvantaged people living with T2D to eat healthily on a budget and improve diabetes self-management.
Palliative care was initially developed for patients with a cancer diagnosis and severe symptoms. Despite the ambition to broaden the palliative care approach to include other groups, patients with cancer are still a majority in specialised palliative care. The broader view and development of palliative care has led to an intense debate on existing definitions.

We investigated the influence of active and passive air humidification on EBC volumes obtained from MV patients. We collected 29 EBC samples from 21 critically ill MV patients with one condition of active humidification and four different conditions of non-humidification; 19 samples from 19 surgical MV patients with passive humidification and two samples from artificial lungs MV with active humidification.

In this study, we present a new method for measuring fat graft volume retention in the breast based on magnetic resonance imaging scans and a validation study to assess its accuracy and precision. The method was validated by 4 observers using the magnetic resonance imaging scans of 14 patients undergoing breast augmentation with fat grafting. The method was translated into software and was used to measure the change in breast volume from a preoperative scan to a postoperative scan recorded within 3 hours after the surgery, which was compared with the injected fat graft volume.

Background: DFD affects up to 60 million people globally. Evidence suggests that comprehensive preventative footcare may reduce serious complications of DFD, such as amputation.
Background: Recently, we showed that there are higher protein, lysine, and phenylalanine requirements in late stages of pregnancy compared with early stages. Animal studies have suggested an increased dietary need for specific dispensable amino acids in pregnancy; whether such a need exists in human pregnancies is unknown.
Objective: The objective of the current study was to examine whether healthy pregnant women at midgestation (20-29 wk) and late gestation (30-40 wk) have a dietary demand for glycine, a dispensable amino acid, using the indicator amino acid oxidation method and measurement of plasma 5-oxoproline concentrations.
Background: Most data on intensive care unit (ICU) patients with COVID-19 originate in selected populations from stressed healthcare systems with shorter term follow-up. We present characteristics, interventions and longer term outcomes of the entire, unselected cohort of all ICU patients with COVID-19 in Denmark where the ICU capacity was not exceeded.
Methods: We identified all patients with SARS-CoV-2 admitted to any Danish ICU from 10 March to 19 May 2020 and registered demographics, chronic comorbidities, use of organ support, length of stay, and vital status from patient files.
Background And Purpose: To improve diagnoses of primary brain tumours, knowledge about early indicators is needed. Nationwide Danish health registries were used to conduct a population-based case-control study including all persons diagnosed with a primary brain tumour between 2005 and 2014 in Denmark.
Methods: All 5135 adults diagnosed with a primary brain tumour in the Danish Cancer Registry were matched to 19 572 general population comparisons from the Danish Civil Registration System.
Background: It is well established that patients with glioma may experience adverse general (eg, headache) or focal symptoms (eg, personality changes) and neurocognitive deficits (eg, planning), but they may also experience severe emotional distress. We investigated the prevalence of depressive symptoms in patients with newly diagnosed glioma and in matched cancer-free persons.
Methods: For this study, we recruited patients with glioma diagnosed within 12 months at all 4 neurosurgical clinics in Denmark.

Patients undergoing heart transplant are at high risk for vasodilatory shock in the postoperative period, due to a combination of vascular dysfunction from end-stage heart failure and inflammatory response to cardiopulmonary bypass and, increasingly, long-term exposure to nonpulsatile blood flow in those who have received a left ventricular assist device as a bridge to transplant. Patients who have this vasoplegic syndrome, which may be refractory to traditional agents used in the treatment of shock, are vulnerable to organ dysfunction and death. Angiotensin II (ANG-2) is of increasing interest as an adjunct to traditional therapy, both for improvement in blood pressure and for sparing the use of high-dose catecholamine vasopressors.

The inability of older adults to maintain independence is a consequence of sarcopenia and frailty. In order to identify the molecular mechanisms responsible for decreased physical function, it will be critical to utilize a small animal model. The main purpose of this study was to develop a composite Comprehensive Functional Assessment Battery (CFAB) of well-validated tests to determine physical function and exercise capacity in 3 age groups of male C57BL/6 mice (6 months old, n = 29; 24 months old, n = 24; 28+ months old, n = 28).

Corticosteroids reduce the time on mechanical ventilation, length of stay in the intensive care unit and potentially also mortality in similar patient populations. However, corticosteroids have undesirable effects, including longer time to viral clearance.
