Article Synopsis
  • Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) often have prolonged QT intervals, increasing their risk for serious heart problems, including sudden cardiac death.
  • A study identified several factors, such as age, sex, and serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, that are associated with Fridericia's corrected QT interval (QTcF) in T2DM patients over a median of 2.55 years.
  • The findings suggest that optimizing TSH concentration could potentially lower the risk of dangerous heart arrhythmias in T2DM patients, highlighting the need for more research in this area.
