Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide; therefore, searching for an effective treatment for this illness is of great importance. In the present work,  cytotoxic activity of the ethanol extract of the aerial parts of  L. against human liver carcinoma cells (Hep G2) was tested.

Hookworm infection among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis: Impact of co-infection on the therapeutic failure of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Objective/background: The aim of this study is to determine the rate of hookworm infection among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and to find out if there is a relation between hookworm infection and the therapeutic failure of pulmonary TB.

Methods: We carried out a prospective, hospital-based study. The study included 231 naïve patients with pulmonary TB, consecutively.

Effect of myrrh and thyme on Trichinella spiralis enteral and parenteral phases with inducible nitric oxide expression in mice.

Trichinellosis is a serious disease with no satisfactory treatment. We aimed to assess the effect of myrrh (Commiphora molmol) and, for the first time, thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) against enteral and encysted (parenteral) phases of Trichinella spiralis in mice compared with albendazole, and detect their effect on inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression.

Capillaria philippinensis in Upper Egypt: has it become endemic?

The goal of this study was to present an overview of human infections with Capillaria philippinensis, a new emerging parasite in Upper Egypt. The study included 21 inpatients who had been admitted to the Assiut University Hospital. Patients suffered from intermittent abdominal pain, borborygmi, chronic diarrhea lasting for several weeks, and marked weight loss.

Comparative study between non lethal and lethal strains of Plasmodium yoelii with reference to its immunological aspect.

Innate immunity has an important role in the protection against malaria. To clarify the effect on non lethal and lethal strain of Plasmodium yoelii, comparison between two groups of C57BL/6 mice infected with 10(4) parasitized RBCs was performed. Liver and spleen mononuclear cells were isolated and analyzed by flow cytometry.
