A high-frequency, in situ fluorescence probe, called Fluocopée®, has been developed in order to better monitor variations in both the quality and quantity of dissolved organic matter within various aquatic environments (e.g. wastewater, receiving environments) thanks to a wide choice of 29 measured Excitation/Emission wavelength pairs.

Condylar repositioning according to digital bite registration method for virtual orthognathic surgery planning: A series of 49 consecutive patients.

Introduction: The accurate mandibular condylar positioning for orthognathic surgical planning is fundamental in obtaining a planned occlusal result. The differences between the position of condyles seen on computed tomography or cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans and during surgery reduce the accuracy of the result. This study aimed to assess the differences between the condylar position recorded on CBCT and a numerical 3-dimensional (3D) model created after mandibular repositioning for orthognathic surgery planning.

Nonlinear elasticity of cross-linked networks.

Cross-linked semiflexible polymer networks are omnipresent in living cells. Typical examples are actin networks in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells, which play an essential role in cell motility, and the spectrin network, a key element in maintaining the integrity of erythrocytes in the blood circulatory system. We introduce a simple mechanical network model at the length scale of the typical mesh size and derive a continuous constitutive law relating the stress to deformation.

Analysis of the fiber architecture of the heart by quantitative polarized light microscopy. Accuracy, limitations and contribution to the study of the fiber architecture of the ventricles during fetal and neonatal life.

Objective: To address the advantages and drawbacks of quantitative polarized light microscopy for the study of myocardial cell orientation and to identify its contribution in the field.

Methods: Quantitative polarized light microscopy allows to measure the orientation of myocardial fibers into the ventricular mass. For each pixel of a horizontal section, this orientation is the mean value of the directions of all myosin filaments contained in the thickness of the section for each pixel of the section and is accounted for by two angles, the azimuth angle, which is the angle of the fiber in the plane of the section, and the elevation angle, which measures the way the fiber escapes from the section.

[Results transferability on RXL, ARX, X-Pand, BN2 (Dade Behring) and modular DP (Roche Diagnostics) analysers: application to component assays of fibrotest and Actitest].

The follow up of patients with chronic liver diseases and the data from multicentric clinical studies are affected by the variability of assay results for the same parameter between the different laboratories. Today, the main objective in clinical chemistry throughout the world is to harmonise the assay results between the laboratories after the confirmation of their traceability, in relation to defined reference systems. In this context, the purpose of our study was to verify the homogeneity of haptoglobin, apolipoprotein A1, total bilirubin, GGT activity, ALAT activity results, which are combined in Fibrotest and Actitest, between Dimension Analysers RXL, ARX and X-PAND (Dade Behring Society).

Galantamine pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability profiles are similar in healthy Caucasian and Japanese subjects.

The aim of this study was to compare the pharmacokinetics of galantamine in healthy Japanese and Caucasian subjects and assess the safety and tolerability of galantamine in both ethnic groups. Parallel groups of healthy Japanese (n = 13; 6 males and 7 females)and Caucasian (n = 12; 6 males and 6 females) subjects matched for weight and age received single oral doses of galantamine 4 mg, or galantamine 8 mg, or placebo in a double-blind, three-way crossover trial according to a randomized dosing schedule. Concentrations of galantamine and norgalantamine were determined in plasma and urine samples taken up to 48 and 24 hours after dosing, respectively.

[Antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria isolated from pathological specimens and utilization of beta-lactams in an orthopedic surgery service].

From 1980 to 1984, computerized data on the sensitivity to the main antibiotics of 1991 strains isolated from clinical specimens were evaluated in relation to beta-lactam use and hospital activity in a unit of orthopedic surgery. No major variations were found in distribution of species throughout the study period, whereas sensitivity to antimicrobial agents changed. From 1980 to 1982, patients had postoperative prophylactic treatment with cephalosporin (cefazolin) for two days; during the same period, 59% of 557 Gram negative organisms were resistant to cefazolin and 31% of Staphylococci were resistant to methicillin (and to other antibiotics).

[Bacterial contamination of the air in different operating rooms].

Bacteria air samples were taken in the operating rooms, with no people present, to specify the level of air contamination and suggest bacteriological standards for different operating rooms. In the first step of this study, for 5 months the air contamination mean value of operating rooms, ventilated at 15 changes/hour was 18.5 Cfu/m3 +/- 1.
