Adolescent/young adult cancer survivors (AYACS) are diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years of age. Improving AYACS' survivorship quality is crucial-including improving social connectedness, a construct describing the quality, structure and function of social relationships. With better understanding of AYACS' social connectedness, network-based interventions can be developed to foster social health.

Introduction: Cancer and cytotoxic chemotherapy used for its treatment predispose to severe and often fatal infections. Prompt diagnosis and timely antibiotic therapy are crucial, with delays in therapy initiation having high mortality. Complete blood count (CBC) is an inexpensive, standardized, and preliminary investigation for the management and follow-up of cancer patients with diagnostic and prognostic value.

Antimicrobial Photodynamic therapy for the treatment of periodontitis is being increasingly gaining attention but at present, very limited data are available on the clinical and microbiological outcomes obtained following Indocyanine Green as the photosensitizer in Maintenance patients. The objective was to evaluate the efficiency of Indocyanine(ICG)-green based photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in patients enrolled in maintenance therapy. Using a split mouth study design, 24 participants enrolled in the maintenance therapy, having diagnosed as Periodontitis, were randomly subjected to scaling and root planing(SRP).

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the COVID-19 clinical outcomes in patients with liver disease compared to those without, analyzing data from India.
  • Out of 232 liver disease patients, a significant 59.1% tested positive for COVID-19, with those having additional health conditions at a greater risk for severe outcomes and mortality.
  • The research also uncovered differences in genetic mutations between the COVID-19 strains affecting liver disease patients and those without, suggesting an important distinction in how the virus manifests in these two groups.

Purpose: Adolescent and young adult cancer survivors (AYACS) are patients diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years of age. AYACS are often derailed from planned educational and occupational endeavors due to disruption from cancer treatment and its consequences. The study objective was to examine how a personal cancer diagnosis impacted AYACS' experiences related to these endeavors.

Given recent advances in cancer therapeutics, there is a growing population of adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors navigating the physical and psychological consequences of cancer treatment. Fertility preservation (FP) conversations are of increasing importance for these survivors. Decision regret (DR) is a measure of distress or remorse following a health care decision, and it is a useful tool to evaluate the impact of a treatment on quality of life.

  • Cashew nut testa (CNT) is a cashew by-product that is rich in polyphenols but faces challenges like astringency, low solubility, and polyphenol instability during processing.
  • Nanoencapsulation using β-cyclodextrin and whey protein isolate resulted in a nano-complex that demonstrated higher encapsulation efficiency and yield, alongside improved stability and solubility.
  • The study indicates that the nano-complex can control the release of bio-actives, showing great potential for applications in the food and agricultural sectors.

  • The study evaluated the safety, toxicity, and distribution of eugenol nanoparticles (EONs) in Wistar rats after oral administration, observing no adverse effects or inflammation.
  • Biodistribution analysis showed that eugenol was rapidly absorbed with a peak concentration (Cmax) of 15.05 μg/mL in blood plasma at around 8 hours (Tmax).
  • EONs were found to enhance the stability and solubility of eugenol while showing a promising safety profile, suggesting potential for continued research and application.

Chronic wounds including vascular ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, and burn wounds show delayed progress through the healing process. Some of their common features are prolonged inflammation, persistent infection, and presence of biofilms resistant to antimicrobials and host immune response. Biofilm formation by opportunistic pathogens is a major problem in chronic wound management.

Although osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor, chemotherapeutic drugs and treatment have failed to increase the five-year survival rate over the last three decades. We previously demonstrated that type 5 metabotropic glutamate receptor, mGluR5, is required to proliferate metastatic osteosarcoma cells. In this work, we delivered mGluR5 siRNAs in vitro using superparamagnetic iron oxide nanocages (IO-nanocages) as delivery vehicles and applied alternating magnetic fields (AMFs) to improve mGluR5 siRNAs release.
