Background: Fatigue and sleep disturbance are 2 of the most common and distressing cancer symptoms that negatively affect quality of life.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of, and factors contributing to, fatigue and sleep disturbance in Arabic-speaking cancer patients in Oman after completion of their cancer treatment.

Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive correlational design was used.

Acute extremity compartment syndrome is considered an orthopedic emergency that has serious consequences if a correct diagnosis is not made rapidly. Patients who lose consciousness due to a drug overdose are known to collapse onto their extremities. The limbs are compressed for hours, placing them at an increased risk for acute extremity compartment syndrome and its sequelae.

The Role of Multimicronutrient Supplementation in Pediatric HIV Management in Nigeria: A Randomized Controlled Study.

Background: We aimed to compare the immunologic and hematologic effects of 3 multimicronutrient supplements in human immunodeficiency virus-positive children in Lagos, Nigeria.

Methods: This double-blind, randomized controlled study included 190 children, aged 5-12 years, in Lagos, Nigeria. Sixty-four, 63, and 63 participants were assigned to multimicronutrient group A, B, or C, respectively, for 6 months.

Cardioprotective medication adherence in Western Australians in the first year after myocardial infarction: restricted cubic spline analysis of adherence-outcome relationships.

Adherence to cardioprotective medications following myocardial infarction (MI) is commonly assessed using a binary threshold of 80%. We investigated the relationship between medication adherence as a continuous measure and outcomes in MI survivors using restricted cubic splines (RCS). We identified all patients aged ≥65 years hospitalised for MI from 2003-2008 who survived one-year post-discharge (n = 5938).

Breastfeeding beliefs and experiences of African immigrant mothers in high-income countries: A systematic review.

Effects of Seasonal Vitamin D3 Supplementation on Strength, Power, and Body Composition in College Swimmers.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of fall season vitamin D3 supplementation on strength/power, body composition, and anabolic hormones in swimmers with optimal vitamin D status at summer's end. Male and female National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I swimmers (N = 19) with optimal 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] randomly received 5,000 IU of vitamin D3 (VITD) or placebo (PLA) daily for 12 weeks while participating in swimming and strength and conditioning training (August-November). Before and after the intervention, the participants underwent blood sampling for analysis of serum 25(OH)D, parathyroid hormone, total testosterone, free testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, and insulin-like growth factor 1, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, and strength/power testing (bench press, squat, dead lift, standing broad jump, vertical jump, and dips and pull-ups).

Effect of monochorionicity on perinatal outcome and growth discordance in triplet pregnancy: collaborative multicenter study in England, 2000-2013.

Objectives: To compare perinatal outcome and growth discordance between trichorionic triamniotic (TCTA) and dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) or monochorionic triamniotic (MCTA) triplet pregnancies.

Methods: This was a multicenter cohort study using population-based data on triplet pregnancies from 11 Northern Survey of Twin and Multiple Pregnancy (NorSTAMP) maternity units and the Southwest Thames Region of London Obstetric Research Collaborative (STORK) multiple pregnancy cohort, for 2000-2013. Perinatal outcomes (from ≥ 24 weeks' gestation to 28 days of age), intertriplet fetal growth and birth-weight (BW) discordance and neonatal morbidity were analyzed in TCTA compared with DCTA/MCTA pregnancies.

Clinical and Genetic Features in a Series of Eight Unrelated Patients with Neuropathy Due to Glycyl-tRNA Synthetase (GARS) Variants.

Pathogenic variants in the Glycyl-tRNA synthetase gene cause the allelic disorders Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2D and distal hereditary motor neuropathy type V. We describe clinical features in 8 unrelated patients found to have Glycyl-tRNA synthetase variants by Next Generation Sequencing. In addition to upper limb predominant symptoms, other presentations included failure to thrive, feeding difficulties and lower limb dominant symptoms.

Bicuspid aortic valve repair using geometric ring annuloplasty: A first-in-humans pilot trial.

Objective: As bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) repair evolves, more effective annular reduction and stabilization could be advantageous. A geometric annuloplasty ring has been developed, and 2-year regulatory outcomes of a first-in-humans pilot trial are reported.

Probing the energetic particle environment near the Sun.

NASA's Parker Solar Probe mission recently plunged through the inner heliosphere of the Sun to its perihelia, about 24 million kilometres from the Sun. Previous studies farther from the Sun (performed mostly at a distance of 1 astronomical unit) indicate that solar energetic particles are accelerated from a few kiloelectronvolts up to near-relativistic energies via at least two processes: 'impulsive' events, which are usually associated with magnetic reconnection in solar flares and are typically enriched in electrons, helium-3 and heavier ions, and 'gradual' events, which are typically associated with large coronal-mass-ejection-driven shocks and compressions moving through the corona and inner solar wind and are the dominant source of protons with energies between 1 and 10 megaelectronvolts. However, some events show aspects of both processes and the electron-proton ratio is not bimodally distributed, as would be expected if there were only two possible processes.

Maternal obesity classes, preterm and post-term birth: a retrospective analysis of 479,864 births in England.

Background: Preterm (< 37 weeks gestation) and post-term birth (≥42 weeks gestation) are associated with increased morbidity and mortality for mother and infant. Obesity (body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m) is increasing in women of reproductive age. Maternal obesity has been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes including preterm and post-term birth.

Overruling uncertainty about preventative medications: the social organisation of healthcare professionals' knowledge and practices.

In this article, we draw on an institutional ethnographic (IE) study of cardiovascular disease prevention in general practice, exploring the work of healthcare professionals who introduce a discussion of risk and preventative medications into consultations with patients. Our aim is to explicate, using IE's theoretical ontology and analytical tools, how troubling patient experiences in this clinical context are coordinated institutionally. We focus our attention on the social organisation of healthcare professionals' knowledge and front-line practices, highlighting the textual processes through which they overrule patients' concerns and uncertainties about taking preventative medication, such that some patients feel unable to openly discuss their health needs in preventative consultations.

Evaluating functional electrical stimulation (FES) cycling on cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and functional outcomes in adults with multiple sclerosis and mobility impairment: A systematic review.

Background: People with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS) are at an increased risk of diseases associated with low levels of physical activity (PA). Deconditioning may lead to an acceleration in the development of secondary complications from MS, impairing physical function and exacerbating disease progression. Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Cycling may provide a suitable lower limb exercise intervention for PwMS with mobility impairment.
