Mass-fraction-optimized heterojunction composites featuring precisely engineered interfaces and mesoporous structures are crucial for improving light absorption, minimizing electron-hole recombination, and boosting overall catalytic efficiency. Herein, highly efficient mesoporous-NiFe2O4@g-C3N4 heterojunctions were developed by embedding p-type NiFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) within n-type porous ultrathin g-C3N4 (p-uCN) nanosheets. In covert target detection, Alice attempts to send optical or microwave probes to determine the presence or absence of a weakly reflecting target embedded in thermal background radiation within a target region, while striving to remain undetected by an adversary, Willie, who is co-located with the target and collects all light that does not return to Alice. We formulate this problem in a realistic setting and derive quantum-mechanical limits on Alice's error probability performance in entanglement-assisted target detection for any fixed level of her detectability by Willie. We demonstrate how Alice can approach this performance limit using two-mode squeezed vacuum probes in the regime of small to moderate background brightness, and how such protocols can outperform any conventional approach using Gaussian-distributed coherent states.

Mesoporous catalysts with a high specific surface area, accessible pore structures, and appropriate band edges are desirable for optimal charge transfer across the interfaces, suppress electron-hole recombination, and promote redox reactions at the active sites. The present study demonstrates the rational design of mesoporous ZnFeO@g-CN magnetic nanocomposites (MNCs) with different pore sizes and pore volumes following a combination of facile thermal itching and thermal impregnation methods. The MNCs preserve the structural, morphological, and physical attributes of their counterparts while ensuring their effectiveness and superior catalytic capabilities.

Doping of zinc oxide (ZnO) with manganese (Mn) tunes midbandgap states of ZnO to enhance its optical properties and makes it into an efficient photoactive material for photoelectrochemical water splitting, waste removal from water, and other applications. Phase-insensitive optical amplifiers uniformly amplify each quadrature of an input field and are of both fundamental and technological importance. We find the quantum limit on the precision of estimating the gain of a quantum-limited phase-insensitive amplifier using a multimode probe that may also be entangled with an ancilla system. In stark contrast to the sensing of loss parameters, the average photon number N and number of input modes M of the probe are found to be equivalent and interchangeable resources for optimal gain sensing.

Background: IL-6 receptor antagonist tocilizumab (TCZ) has been used in several reported studies in the treatment of COVID-19 pneumonia and pieces of evidence are still emerging.

Methods: All patients with COVID-19 pneumonia showing features of hyperinflammatory syndrome receiving TCZ at a tertiary care center in India were included in the study and a retrospective descriptive analysis was done.

Results: Between May 2020 to August 2020, 21 patients received TCZ out of which 13 survived and 8 died.

The problem of estimating multiple loss parameters of an optical system using the most general ancilla-assisted parallel strategy is solved under energy constraints. An upper bound on the quantum Fisher information matrix is derived assuming that the environment modes involved in the loss interaction can be accessed.
