- Biapenem has been approved for treating complicated urinary tract infections in India, but its effectiveness against ESBL-producing Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in vitro has not been previously studied.
- The study assessed the susceptibility of various isolates to biapenem using broth microdilution and identified resistance genes through multiplex PCR.
- Results showed biapenem's in-vitro activity is comparable to meropenem against resistant E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and P. aeruginosa, with a recommended testing concentration of 10 μg for accurate results.
Invasive group B Streptococcal disease (iGBS) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in neonates for which the development of an efficacious vaccine remains a global health imperative. The knowledge about the serotype distribution of iGBS is important component for formulation of Capsular polysaccharide (CPS)-based vaccine. However, there were absolute lack of information on serotype distribution in invasive GBS isolates from Indian subcontinent.
