Article Synopsis
  • Telogen effluvium (TE) is the most common type of hair loss, and Vitamin D may play a key role due to its effects on the immune system and inflammation.
  • A study involving 40 women with TE showed significantly lower Vitamin D levels compared to healthy controls, but after 3 months of oral Vitamin D treatment, their levels improved considerably.
  • The findings suggest that oral Vitamin D could be beneficial for TE, but more extensive research is needed to determine the appropriate dosages and treatment duration.

Background/purpose: Psoriasis is a multifactorial disease. It is a combination of genetic, immunological, and environmental factors. Vitamin D receptor (VDR) is a nuclear receptor that regulates epidermal cell growth through the inhibition of proliferation and induction of keratinocytes terminal differentiation.

Background: Lichen planus (LP), especially oral type, reported a potential risk of malignant transformation to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Yes-Associated Protein (YAP1), a key component of the Hippo pathway, acts as a transcription cofactor regulating expression of genes involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and migration. Therefore, it has been implicated in carcinogenesis of a wide variety of human cancers.

Background: Updates of treatment methods of stable vitiligo are needed to give better outcomes with a shorter duration of treatment.

Objective: To test the effect of transdermal 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) delivery using fractional CO (FrCO ) laser versus intralesional 5-FU injection, with narrow-band type ultraviolet B (UVB) (NB-UVB) therapy after both, in the treatment of stable vitiligo.

Patients And Methods: The present study comprised 40 patients with nearly symmetrical stable vitiligo lesions.

Reviewing the literatures, we did not found-to our knowledge-any study using the Nd:YAG laser with wavelength 1440 nm in assisted liposuction and rejuvenation of the head and neck region although of the higher absorption rate for fat and water. Evidence-based practice supports the benefits of laser-assisted liposuction over conventional liposuction with skin tightening in selected areas specifically the submental area and the neck. The aim of the work is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Nd:YAG laser wavelength (WL) 1440 nm on lipolysis of submental area and skin tightening of the lower face and neck area.

Atrophic scars that occur after surgical procedure or trauma are considered as a cosmetic problem for patients. Atrophic scarring results usually during wound healing with inadequate production of collagen and connective tissue. Factors that precipitate to the formation of depressed scars include: individual variations in wound healing, wound tension, tissue apposition, and scar contraction.

Background: NB-UVB phototherapy is still an effective treatment in vitiligo but requires more than 1 year for its completion. Topical 5-flurouracil could improve the proliferation and migration of melanocytes. Laser-assisted dermabrasion results in stimulation of the inactive melanocytes present at the outer root sheath of the lower portion of the hair follicle, which migrates upward until they reach the surface of the skin.

Onychomycosis is a common chronic-resistant nail disease. Traditional treatment has its limitations and side effects. This study aimed to evaluate the role of fractional CO laser and topical tioconazole 28% nail lacquer in the treatment of fingernail onychomycosis, as sole treatment modalities and in combination.

Background: The popularity of dermal fillers has grown rapidly in the last few years for facial rejuvenation. Plasma gel is an autologous gelatinous material that is prepared from the patient's own platelet poor plasma.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of plasma gel injection as a dermal filler for facial rejuvenation.

Background: Despite the numerous treatment modalities available for vitiligo, responses to treatment are still unsatisfactory. For this reason, new treatment modalities and approaches are needed.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of fractional carbon dioxide (CO ) laser therapy followed by narrow band ultraviolet-B (NB-UVB) phototherapy on stable resistant vitiligo.

Background: Management of alopecia areata (AA) and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is often challenging. The use of carboxytherapy may be a novel therapeutic option for such cases.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of carboxytherapy in alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia.

Purpose & Methods: The aim of this work was to study the clinicopathological features of Kaposi sarcoma (KS) & kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) and analyze their immunohistochemical expression of c-Kit, CD34, α-SMA. The study was performed on cutaneous 10 classic KS & 8 KHE.

Results: KHE shows several dilated lymphatic channels, focal capillary formation, lack of nuclear atypia and mitosis within tumor cells.

Background: Narrowband - ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) is an emerging, effective, and safe therapy for vitiligo, but the treatment course often requires a long duration of time which may carry a potential risk for various side effects and patients' noncompliance.

Objective: To explore the effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on the outcome of short-term NB-UVB therapy for the patients with stable vitiligo.

Patients And Methods: The study included 60 stable vitiligo patients with overall symmetrical lesions.

Background: Dermoscopy is a non-invasive technique allowing rapid and magnified in vivo observation of the skin. The anatomical structure of acral volar skin results in unique dermoscopic features in this location.

Objective: To describe and analyze the characteristic dermoscopic features of various kinds of acral pigmented lesions and emphasize the diagnostic value of the dermoscope in early melanoma at this anatomic site in a sample of Egyptians.
