The current radiation dose estimates used in medical imaging, radiation oncology or environmental assessments are not entirely accurate from a fundamental physics perspective, let alone for biological consequences. The "one cloth fits all" approach of radiation-matter interactions cannot assess the effects of interactions of the same species of radiation of different energies on the same isotope of an element. Preliminary steps to set the radiation dosimetry in the right direction are suggested.

Images of a male Japanese macaque weighing ~10Â kg were acquired using a multi-slice computed tomography (CT) scan with a 64-row segment detector. The CT images were used to create voxel phantoms of the bones, bone marrow, brain, eyes, heart, lungs, stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, intestines, bladder, testes, thyroid and miscellaneous tissue.

We tagged an (η+p) pair associated with the η^{'}N→ηN process in a nucleus. After applying kinematical selections to reduce backgrounds, no signal events were observed in the bound-state region.

Photoproduction of Lambda(1520) with liquid hydrogen and deuterium targets was examined at photon energies below 2.4 GeV in the SPring-8 LEPS experiment. For the first time, the differential cross sections were measured at low energies and with a deuterium target.

Measurements of the reaction gammap-->K;{+}Sigma;{*0} are difficult to extract due to overlap with the nearby Lambda(1405) resonance. However, the reaction gamman-->K;{+}Sigma;{*-} has no overlap with the Lambda(1405) due to its charge.

The novel features of this experiment are (a) the use of an 'event-ready' [corrected] detector of nearly 100% efficiency to prepare an unbiased sample and (b) a focal-plane polarimeter of full 2pi sr acceptance with a random "post selection" of the reference axes. The spin-correlation function is deduced to be S[exp](pi/4)=2.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFPhotoproduction of a phi meson on protons was studied by means of linearly polarized photons at forward angles in the low-energy region from threshold to Egamma = 2.37 GeV. The differential cross sections at t = -|t|min do not increase smoothly as Egamma increases but show a local maximum at around 2.
