Natural sound archives: past, present and future.

Recordings of wild animals were first made in the Palearctic in 1900, in the Nearctic in 1929, in Antarctica in 1934, in Asia in 1937, and in the Neotropics in the 1940s. However, systematic collecting did not begin until the 1950s. Collections of animal sound recordings serve many uses in education, entertainment, science and nature conservation.

[Experiences with intensive radiotherapy of prostatic cancer in conjunction with surgery (transurethral resection, pelvic lymph node excision)].

Since 1981 a curative radiation treatment was performed in 84 patients with prostatic carcinoma. Previously, in 37 cases a transurethral resection of bladder outlet obstruction was done and in 18 patients a pelvic lymph node dissection was performed, whereas 29 patients were without operative therapy. Mild side effects of radiation could observed in all 3 groups in nearly the same portion (59/56/65%).

[Transrectal longitudinal sonography of the prostate in prostatic cancer].

The transrectal ultrasonography is suited to image the prostate like no other imaging procedure. In a palpatory suspicious prostate with an ultrasonographical echo-poor area a prostatic cancer should be suspected whereas this area in a palpatory normal prostate point to inflammatory changes. In the presence of echo-dense areas or a homogenous external gland a benign change should be assumed.

[Percutaneous catheter dilatation of benign ureteral stenoses: indications, technic, results].

From June 1984 to December 1986 twenty-one benign ureteral stenoses were treated. After percutaneous nephropyelostomy an antegrade dilatation was performed by means of balloon catheters or increasing size of angiographic catheters. Subsequently an ureteral splinting with a F-12-catheter and a glucocorticoid therapy was followed.

[Percutaneous nephropyelostomy--indications, complications, and various aspects of clinical use].

During almost 3 years in 100 patients the percutaneous nephropyelostomy was used as method of the supravesical discharge of urine 109 times. The X-ray-aimed puncture was performed on the basis of the fine needle puncture technique by means of a puncture set which we developed ourselves. When a urinary retention is present, the number of targets is great (96%), the rate of complications small.

[En bloc perfusion of donor kidneys--a report on 2 1/2 years' experience].

The methodology of the extracorporal en-bloc-perfusion of donor kidneys is described. After an application of nearly three years its advantages are explained and clearly confirmed on the basis of very good functional results after transplantation of kidneys preserved in such a way.

[The experimental urethral replacement using tunica vaginalis and periorchium in the dog].

The good results on dogs, particularly in the patch substitute group, show that the Tunica vaginalis-periorchium-substitution of defects of the urethra fulfils all the expectations wanted. From this we conclude the right to recommend the broader use of this method in man.

[Technical problems in the demonstration of prostatic hormones].

From this short description of the course of our experiments it becomes evident to every experimentator which diverse technical problems had to be mastered to get evaluable preparations. After extensive preliminary we are able since the beginning of this year to carry out the systematic elaboration of the entire bioptic material. On account of the long exposition time we, however, nowadays cannot yet demonstrate figures of radioactively labelled preparations.

[Incidence and therapy of fungal infections of the efferent urinary pathways].

Manifest infections with fungi of the urinary tract are rare in comparison with bacterial diseases and therefore they are often overseen. When this is concerned a funguria must always be clarified in chronic pyelonephritis. In patients with manifest infections with fungi without pronounced renal insufficiency 5-fluorocytosin is therapeutically very well suited on account of the renal elimination.

[Fungal infestation of the excretory urinary ways in chronic pyelonephritis].

374 patients with florid chronic pyelonephritis were examined concerning the frequency of a funguria. In primary diseases in 7.8% and in secondary forms in 12.
