The refugee crisis is an urgent global health issue; the number of displaced people has escalated to its worst point in recorded history. To explore the refugee phenomenon as a social determinant of health, this article examines the experience of Somali refugees in Minnesota. Health care barriers unique to refugees are explored through the firstperson perspective of one Somali woman who ultimately became a nurse.

Veteran-Centered Exemplars in a Prelicensure Nursing Program Curriculum.

Veterans have unique health care needs that must be addressed. Seventy-five percent of veterans are treated outside Veteran Health Administration facilities, so all health care providers should be educated on how to better serve veterans and their families. Nurses are in a prime position to lead the way in these efforts, beginning in prelicensure nursing education.
