Background: Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures are essential for evaluating disease-related quality of life. The International Hip Outcome Tool 12 (iHOT12) assesses various aspects of hip-related symptoms, function, sports participation, and social limitations. This study aimed to adapt and validate an Italian version of the iHOT12 according to COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) guidelines.

Treatment of rotational tibial malunion after minimal invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO): Corrective osteotomy with original plate retention (PR-Osteotomy).

Background And Purpose: Residual axial and rotational deformities in tibial shaft fracture, after minimally invasive osteosynthesis (MIO) treatment, are widely described in literature. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of evidence about the malunion treatment strategies and results. The aim of our study is to present an innovative technique for tibial shaft malunion: a derotational proximal tibial osteotomy without removing the original plate (Plate-Retaining-Osteotomy: PR-Osteotomy).

Efficacy of intra-articular injection of combined platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) in knee degenerative joint disease: a prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial.

Purpose: Intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid (HA) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) represent promising options in the conservative treatment of early stages of knee osteoarthritis (OA). Although the combined use of these two compounds seems to have a synergistic effect in pre-clinical studies, few clinical trials compared the association of PRP and HA with PRP and HA alone. The aim of study is to evaluate the efficacy of combined intra-articular injections of PRP and HA in the treatment of mild to moderate knee OA, compared to PRP and HA alone.

High Survival Rate and Satisfaction at More Than 11-Year Follow-Up After Hip Arthroscopy for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome: Impact of Preoperative Functional Scores, Osteoarthritis, and Chondrolabral Junction Damage on Failure.

Purpose: To investigate the survival and durability of clinical improvements after hip arthroscopy (HA) for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) at a minimum of 10-year follow-up.

Methods: Data from patients who underwent HA for FAIS between March 2003 and May 2012 were collected and retrospectively reviewed. Patients who underwent evaluation at a minimum 10-year follow-up, assessed according to the Hip Outcome Score (HOS)-Activities of Daily Living, HOS-Sport-Specific Subscale, and Non-arthritic Hip Score, were included.

We described a case of an incarcerated Kuntscher nail, inserted 39 years before, in a 75-year-old woman waiting for a revision total hip arthroplasty of a failed metal-on-metal hip resurfacing.

Last generation fluted modular titanium stem in revision hip arthroplasty: a narrative review of mid- and long-term outcomes.

Background And Objective: Tapered fluted titanium stems (TFTS), were introduced to overcome proximal femur bone defects. They obtain stable fixation even in catastrophic proximal bone loss. Modular ones have the advantage to adjust length, rotation, off-set independently from the distal module.

Groin Pain Syndrome Italian Consensus Conference update 2023.

Groin pain syndrome (GPS) is a controversial topic in Sports Medicine. The GPS Italian Consensus Conference on terminology, clinical evaluation and imaging assessment of groin pain in athletes was organized by the Italian Society of Arthroscopy in Milan, on 5 February 2016. In this Consensus Conference (CC) GPS etiology was divided into 11 different categories for a total of 63 pathologies.

Conversion hip arthroplasty via the direct anterior approach: pearls, pitfalls and personal experience.

Objective: Conversion total hip arthroplasty (CTHA) through a direct anterior approach (DAA) in supine position.

Indications: Failed osteosynthesis of proximal femoral fractures or failed conservative hip surgery, with hardware in situ.

Contraindications: Decayed general conditions, infection (peri-implant or systemic infection), need for greater trochanter reconstruction, severe proximal femur deformity.

Current Practice of Italian Association of Revision Surgery Members in the Treatment of Unified Classification System Type B Periprosthetic Femoral Fracture Around Hip Arthroplasty: A Cross-Sectional Survey.

Introduction: Periprosthetic femoral fracture around hip arthroplasty are growing in the world, nevertheless management and treatment options for fractures "around the stem" are still debated due to lack of high-level studies.

Materials And Method: A 85-item survey were fill out by 40 Italian Orthopedic Surgeon member of SIOT (Società Italiana di Ortopedia e Traumatologia) and AIR (Associazione Italiana Riprotesizzazione) to assess their current opinion in the management of type B periprosthetic femoral fractures. Responses were summarized using proportions, and further stratified by practice type, case volume, surgeon age, and fellowship training.

Floating hip in polytraumatized patients: complications, mechanism of injury, and surgical strategy.

Purpose: Floating hip fractures are severe and rare injuries with high complication rate and lack of standard management. The purpose of this retrospective study was to review the outcomes of a case series of polytraumatized patients with floating hip injuries, in order to describe the relationship between complication rate and floating hip injury type, the pathomechanism of injury, and the surgical treatment strategy.

Methods: Forty-five patients with floating hip injuries were analyzed.

Hip arthroscopy for the treatment of osteoid osteoma of the acetabulum: a case report study.

Osteoid osteoma (OO) of the acetabulum is a quite rare pathology, with an overall incidence of 0,5%. Frequently the diagnosis of OO may not be simple to obtain, because the clinical presentation can mimic other common hip pathologies. We present a case report of OO of the anterior/superior edge of the acetabular fossa associated with a degenerative lesion of the acetabular labrum and with a concomitant femoral neck cam.

Femoral neck fractures: Key points to consider for fixation or replacement a narrative review of recent literature.

Introduction: Femoral neck fractures (FNF) are frequent injuries and not rarely complicated by non-union, implant failure, and avascular necrosis. Some of these fractures represent a dilemma for trauma surgeons. Which fracture should be fixed? Which replaced with a prosthesis? How? The aim of this narrative review is to investigate the literature in order to provide the most updated and evidence-based knowledge about FNF' treatment.

Direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty with an orthopedic traction table.

Objective: Direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty (DAA THA) has gained significant popularity in the last decade as it is a muscle-sparing procedure. Modern techniques for DAA THA utilize both a standard operating table and an orthopedic traction table. As the use of an orthopedic traction table shows technical ease and predictability, this article will focus on the use of the orthopedic table or table extension to facilitate DAA THA.

Hemiarthroplasty of the hip using the direct anterior approach.

The Collagen-Based Medical Device MD-Tissue Acts as a Mechanical Scaffold Influencing Morpho-Functional Properties of Cultured Human Tenocytes.

Mechanotransduction is the ability of cells to translate mechanical stimuli into biochemical signals that can ultimately influence gene expression, cell morphology and cell fate. Tenocytes are responsible for tendon mechanical adaptation converting mechanical stimuli imposed during mechanical loading, thus affecting extracellular matrix homeostasis. Since we previously demonstrated that MD-Tissue, an injectable collagen-based medical compound containing swine-derived collagen as the main component, is able to affect tenocyte properties, the aim of this study was to analyze whether the effects triggered by MD-Tissue were based on mechanotransduction-related mechanisms.

Protecting healthcare workers from COVID-19: learning from variation in practice and policy identified through a global cross-sectional survey.

Aims: The COVID-19 pandemic presents an unprecedented burden on global healthcare systems, and existing infrastructures must adapt and evolve to meet the challenge. With health systems reliant on the health of their workforce, the importance of protection against disease transmission in healthcare workers (HCWs) is clear. This study collated responses from several countries, provided by clinicians familiar with practice in each location, to identify areas of best practice and policy so as to build consensus of those measures that might reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 to HCWs at work.

Development of the Italian fractures registry (RIFra): A call for action to improve quality and safety.

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the development of arthroplasty registries, therefore, in our country, the Italian Arthroplasty Registry (RIAP), was issued by the National Law No. 221/2012. In the last decade, however, some European countries -namely Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Germany (in development)- have introduced another nationwide orthopaedic registry than arthroplasty registers: the fracture registry.
