Article Synopsis
  • Postmortem examinations are categorized into medical autopsies, requested by next of kin to assess disease and treatment, and medicolegal autopsies, conducted by forensic pathologists to establish cause and manner of death and address legal concerns.
  • A study was conducted on 189 routine forensic cases to evaluate the necessity of routine histologic (microscopic) examination, where the cause and manner of death were clear from gross examination.
  • The findings showed that only one case had a changed cause of death due to histology, leading to the conclusion that routine microscopic examination is typically unnecessary in forensic autopsies, though it may be beneficial in specific situations.
