B cell depletion with anti-CD20 promotes neuroprotection in a BAFF-dependent manner in mice and humans.

Anti-CD20 therapy to deplete B cells is highly efficacious in preventing new white matter lesions in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), but its protective capacity against gray matter injury and axonal damage is unclear. In a passive experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model whereby T17 cells promote brain leptomeningeal immune cell aggregates, we found that anti-CD20 treatment effectively spared myelin content and prevented myeloid cell activation, oxidative damage, and mitochondrial stress in the subpial gray matter. Anti-CD20 treatment increased B cell survival factor (BAFF) in the serum, cerebrospinal fluid, and leptomeninges of mice with EAE.

Room temperature optically detected magnetic resonance of single spins in GaN.

High-contrast optically detected magnetic resonance is a valuable property for reading out the spin of isolated defect colour centres at room temperature. Spin-active single defect centres have been studied in wide bandgap materials including diamond, SiC and hexagonal boron nitride, each with associated advantages for applications. We report the discovery of optically detected magnetic resonance in two distinct species of bright, isolated defect centres hosted in GaN.

Xanthogranulomatous Cholecystitis Mimicking Gall Bladder Cancer: a Diagnostic Dilemma and Review of Literature.

Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC) is one of the rare variants of chronic cholecystitis which is characterized by inflammation of gall bladder along with infiltration by acute and chronic inflammatory cells. Intramural accumulation of lipid laden macrophages in GB wall is the hallmark of the disease. XGC results in dense adhesion of gall bladder (GB) to surrounding structures, like duodenum, colon, and stomach.

Broadening of the zero phonon line (ZPL) caused by dephasing in solid state SPEs limits the indistinguishability of the emitted photons. Dephasing also limits the use of defect states in quantum information processing, sensing, and metrology.

Plasma extracellular vesicle transcriptome as a dynamic liquid biopsy in acute heart failure.

Background: Acute decompensation is associated with increased mortality in heart failure (HF) patients, though the underlying etiology remains unclear. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their cargo may mark specific cardiovascular physiologic states. We hypothesized that EV transcriptomic cargo, including long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and mRNAs, is dynamic from the decompensated to recompensated HF state, reflecting molecular pathways relevant to adverse remodeling.

Disorder of excitons and trions in monolayer MoSe.

The optical spectra of transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers are dominated by excitons and trions. Here, we establish the dependence of these optical transitions on the disorder from hyperspectral imaging of h-BN encapsulated monolayer MoSe. While both exciton and trion energies vary spatially, these two quantities are almost perfectly correlated, with spatial variation in the trion binding energy of only ∼0.

Rare case of ankylosing spondylitis complicated by IgA vasculitis.

Ankylosing spondylosis (AS) is characterised by bilateral sacroiliitis, asymmetric peripheral oligoarthritis, association with the human leucocyte antigen-B27, enthesitis and dactylitis. The association of IgA vasculitis with AS has been documented in few case reports. We present a rare case of a man in his 40s with AS, who presented with fever, bloody loose stools, abdominal pain, lower limb arthritis, palpable purpura over the lower limbs.

Laparoscopic Excision of an Infected Urachal Sinus in a Teenager: A Rare Case Report With Histological Highlights.

During the development of the coelomic cavity, there is accessible communication between the urinary bladder and the umbilical wall through the urachus. Persistence of this tract results in urachal pathologies with variable symptoms. We present a case of an infected urachal cyst presenting as an umbilical mass with clear discharge in a 19-year-old male successfully managed laparoscopically.

This study explores how the US stock market reacted to the news of a successful development of vaccine by Pfizer and Biontech on November 9, 2020. In particular, the study analyses the effect of the vaccine announcement on 11 sector indices and 79 subsector indices. A key contribution of the present study is to provide a deeper subsector level of analysis lacking in existing literature.

SARS-CoV-2 vertical transmission during the first trimester of pregnancy in asymptomatic women.

Objectives: It is now well established that in utero vertical SARS-CoV-2 transmission can occur during the late third trimester. However, little is known about other gestational ages. Recently, an increased risk of early miscarriage was reported in pregnant women who were SARS-CoV-2-positive.

Elevation of neural injury markers in patients with neurologic sequelae after hospitalization for SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19) risk developing long-term neurologic symptoms after infection. Here, we identify biomarkers associated with neurologic sequelae one year after hospitalization for SARS-CoV-2 infection. SARS-CoV-2-positive patients were followed using post-SARS-CoV-2 online questionnaires and virtual visits.

An Unusual Case of Eosinophilic Ascites with Pleural Effusion - A Rare Manifestation of Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis (EGE).

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is a rare disease characterized by tissue eosinophilia and can affect any part of gastrointestinal (GI) tract from the esophagus to the rectum, although stomach and small intestine are sites most frequently involved. We hereby describe an unusual case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis affecting the stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum involving the mucosa and serosa. A twenty-oneyearold student presented with fever, diarrhea, ascites and right pleural effusion.

Sex-Specific Differences in Ventricular Remodeling and Response After Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy.

In this study, we investigated the baseline characteristics and "trajectories" of clinical response in men and women after cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) implantation. Although women enjoy improved echocardiographic response after CRT compared with men, the kinetics of this response and its relation to functional performance and outcomes are less clear. We identified 592 patients who underwent CRT implantation at our center between 2004 and 2017 and were serially followed in a multidisciplinary clinic.

Intestinal metastasis from carcinoma cervix: An (un) common occurrence in a common cancer. A series of five cases from a single institution.

Carcinoma cervix usually spreads directly to contiguous structures, such as the vagina, urinary bladder, ureter, and rectum. Intestinal metastasis from cervical cancer is very uncommon and accounts for less than 4% of cases and to date, 24 cases have been reported in Medical literature. These may be asymptomatic or present with features of intestinal obstruction, bowel wall perforation, and mimic acute abdomen.

Results of Serosurveillance and Forecasting the Third Wave of COVID-19 in an Industrial District in India.

Prevalence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibodies in the industrial district of East Singhbhum (Jharkhand, India) from July, August, November, and December 2020 and January 2021 after the first wave and in July 2021 after the second wave of coronavirus disease 2021 (COVID-19) infections may be utilized to find the possibility of a third wave of COVID-19 infections. Based on the trend of the loss of protective IgG antibodies after the first wave and the seropositivity of 75% in the district in July 2021, simple forecasting and proportional estimates of the seropositivity in the next eight months and the estimated maximum number of the cases was done. We also considered the seropositivity without vaccination in July 2021 (63%).

A Rare Case of Chondrosarcoma With Metastasis to the Oral Cavity.

Chondrosarcomas with metastases to oral cavities are extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, only six cases of chondrosarcoma with metastases to the oral cavity, maxilla, and/or mandible have been reported in the English-language literature. The last such case was reported three decades earlier; none of the reported cases were from India.

Serosurveillance of Health Care Workers in a COVID Hospital: Immune Response, and Its Longevity.

Objective: We aimed to study the seroprevalence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and sustainability of the immune response in health care workers (HCWs). A cross-sectional study was conducted between October 7 and November 30, 2020, in a multi-specialty hospital in Eastern India designated as COVID hospital during this pandemic. Study participants included 2,110 HCWs, including those who have recovered from COVID infection.
