The global incidence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) continues to rise, primarily driven by the escalating obesity epidemic worldwide. MASLD, a spectrum of liver disorders, can progress to more severe conditions, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), ultimately culminating in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Given the complex nature of MASLD, there is an urgent need to develop robust risk prediction models and design specialized cancer screening initiatives tailored specifically for individuals with MASLD.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) exhibits considerable heterogeneity, with approximately 25% of localized cases susceptible to relapse, highlighting the challenge of the absence of reliable predictive biomarkers for personalized treatment. Meanwhile, metastatic renal cell carcinoma is characterized by unfavorable survival rates, and although Sunitinib offers partial benefits, the clinical advantages are often constrained by drug resistance and adverse side effects. Here, MAGI3 was associate with ccRCC progression, as identified through comprehensive bioinformatics analysis of clinical datasets.

Objectives: Gout, a common form of inflammatory arthritis, is often managed with urate-lowering therapy, but many patients only adhere to treatment during gout attacks, resulting in poor follow-up and suboptimal management. This study aimed to identify characteristics associated with loss to follow-up (LTFU) and develop strategies for better patient management.

Methods: Data were analyzed from the Urate Lowering TheRApy in gout (ULTRA) registry, a prospective cohort of Korean gout patients recruited since September 2021.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been reported to confer an increased risk of natural premature death. Telomere erosion caused by oxidative stress is a common consequence in age-related diseases. However, whether telomere length (TL) and oxidative indicators are significantly changed in ASD patients compared with controls remains controversial.

A series of dinuclear Ir(III) complexes have been constructed for enhanced photodynamic and photothermal therapy (PDT and PTT) for cisplatin-resistant non-small-cell lung cancer. They enter cells via caveolar endocytosis, target mitochondria but not nuclear, generate both singlet oxygen and superoxide anion, and release heat when exposed to infrared (IR) irradiation, thus inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS)-associated cell disruption and thermal ablation. The IR-generated ROS can further activate caspases, triggering apoptosis.

Background: Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) is a significant risk factor for lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer (GC) and is closely related to the prognosis and recurrence of GC. This study aimed to establish clinical models, radiomics models and combination models for the diagnosis of GC vascular invasion.

Methods: This study enrolled 146 patients with GC proved by pathology and who underwent radical resection of GC.

Objective: Implantation of an endovascular device disrupts the homeostatic CD31:CD31 interactions among quiescent endothelial cells (ECs), platelets, and circulating leukocytes. The aim of this study was to design an endothelial-mimetic coating of nitinol and cobalt-chromium (CoCr) surfaces and stents using synthetic CD31 peptides, to promote device endothelialization and pacific integration within the arterial wall.

Methods: Peptides mimicking the domains 1 (D1) and 2 (D2) of CD31 were synthetized and immobilized onto experimental nitinol and CoCr surfaces using a three-step, dip-coating, mussel-inspired protocol using copper-free click chemistry.

Multi-view clustering aims to learn discriminative representations from multi-view data. Although existing methods show impressive performance by leveraging contrastive learning to tackle the representation gap between every two views, they share the common limitation of not performing semantic alignment from a global perspective, resulting in the undermining of semantic patterns in multi-view data. This paper presents CSOT, namely Common Semantics via Optimal Transport, to boost contrastive multi-view clustering via semantic learning in a common space that integrates all views.

Despite the availability of life-extending treatments for B cell leukemias and lymphomas, many of these cancers remain incurable. Thus, the development of new molecular targets and therapeutics is needed to expand treatment options. To identify new molecular targets, we used a forward genetic screen in mice to identify genes required for development or survival of lymphocytes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how lifestyle habits, specifically diet and exercise, affect the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in gout patients using the Gout Impact Scale (GIS).
  • Data from 232 Korean patients revealed that those who exercised more and consumed fewer soft drinks and meat reported better overall gout concerns and well-being during attacks.
  • Results indicate that increased vegetable intake and regular exercise are associated with improved HRQOL in gout patients, emphasizing the importance of lifestyle choices in managing the condition.

As a typical RNA virus, the genetic information on HIV-1 is entirely stored in RNA. The reverse transcription activity of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) plays a crucial role in the replication and transmission of the virus. Non-nucleoside RT inhibitors (NNRTIs) block the function of RT by binding to the RNA binding site on RT, with very few targeting viral RNA.

Background: Sunitinib has emerged as the primary treatment for advanced or metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) due to its significant improvement in patients' average survival time. However, drug resistance and adverse effects of sunitinib pose challenges to its clinical benefits.

Methods: The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with sunitinib sensitivity and resistance in ccRCC were investigated.

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have gained much more attention in the representation learning for the graph-structured data. However, the labels are always limited in the graph, which easily leads to the overfitting problem and causes the poor performance. To solve this problem, we propose a new framework called IGCN, short for Informative Graph Convolutional Network, where the objective of IGCN is designed to obtain the informative embeddings via discarding the task-irrelevant information of the graph data based on the mutual information.

Pre-trained visual-language (ViL) models have demonstrated good zero-shot capability in video understanding tasks, where they were usually adapted through fine-tuning or temporal modeling. However, in the task of open-vocabulary temporal action localization (OV-TAL), such adaption reduces the robustness of ViL models against different data distributions, leading to a misalignment between visual representations and text descriptions of unseen action categories. As a result, existing methods often strike a trade-off between action detection and classification.

Li-rich disordered rock-salt oxides (DRX) are considered an attractive cathode material in the future battery field due to their excellent energy density and specific capacity. Nevertheless, anionic redox provides high capacity while causing O over-oxidation to O, resulting in voltage hysteresis and capacity decay. Herein, the crystal structure of LiMnTiOF (LMTOF) cathode is stabilized by using sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) binders replacing traditional polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) binders.
