Dysphagia is a high-profile dysfunction that often occurs after a stroke, with a prevalence of 50%-80%. Post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) often leads to serious complications such as pneumonia and malnutrition, reducing the quality of life and leading to poor prognosis or even death. PSD causes these adverse physical and psychological impairments to patients, which becomes a challenge for both patients and physicians.

Apathy is a common neuropsychiatric symptom following stroke, characterized by reduced goal-directed behavior. The reward decision network (RDN), which plays a crucial role in regulating goal-directed behaviors, is closely associated with apathy. However, the relationship between poststroke apathy (PSA) and RDN dysfunction remains unclear due to apathy heterogeneity, the confounding effect of depression and individual variability in lesion impacts.

Cyclic compounds are generally preferred over linear compounds for functional studies due to their enhanced bioavailability, stability towards metabolic degradation, and selective receptor binding. This has led to a need for effective cyclization strategies for compound synthesis and hence increased interest in macrocyclization mediated by thioesterase (TE) domains, which naturally boost the chemical diversity and bioactivities of cyclic natural products. Many non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) and polyketide synthase (PKS) derived natural products are assembled to form cyclodimeric compounds, with these molecules possessing diverse structures and biological activities.

Regulating appropriate valence states of metal active centers, such as Ce/Ce and Mn/Mn, as well as surface vacancy defects, is crucial for enhancing the catalytic activity of cerium-based and manganese-based nanozymes. Drawing inspiration from the efficient substance exchange in rhizobia-colonized root cells of legumes, we developed a symbiosis nanozyme system with rhizobia-like CeO nanoclusters robustly anchored onto root-like MnO nanosupports (CeO/MnO). The process of "substance exchange" between Ce and Mn atoms-reminiscent of electron transfer-not only fine-tunes the metal active sites to achieve optimal Ce/Ce and Mn/Mn ratios but also enhances the vacancy ratio through interface defect engineering.

Systemic cryptococcosis is often fatal even with the current antifungal therapy and there is no vaccine available. Induction therapy with amphotericin B (AmB) is essential for its treatment, which can be either in the form of AmB deoxycholate at 1 mg/kg/day for 7 days or a single dose of liposomal AmB (AmB-LLs) at 10 mg/kg, both in combination with flucytosine. AmB is highly toxic and it is imperative to further increase its efficacy without increasing its toxicity.

Background: In traditional Chinese medicine, Sinomenii Caulis contains Sinomenine (SIN), one of the major active ingredients. According to some studies, SIN can reduce proteinuria and provides clinical effectiveness rates in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) patients, however, the evidence is not strong and mechanisms of action are unclear. The efficacy and safety of SIN in treating DKD were evaluated by meta-analysis, and the potential mechanism of SIN therapy for DKD was initially explored by network pharmacology.

Thermoelectric (TE) materials are an important class of energy materials that can directly convert thermal energy into electrical energy. Screening high-performance thermoelectric materials and improving their TE properties are important goals of TE materials research. Based on the objective relationship among the molar Gibbs free energy (G), the chemical potential, the Fermi level, the electronegativity (X) and the TE property of a material, a new method for screening TE materials with high throughput is proposed.

Nanostructured electronic devices, such as those based on graphene, are typically grown on top of the insulator SiO. Their exposure to a flux of small size-selected silver nanoparticles has revealed remarkably selective adhesion: the graphene channel can be made fully metallized, while the insulating substrate remains coverage-free. This conspicuous contrast derives from the low binding energy between the metal nanoparticles and a contaminant-free passivated silica surface.

We generalise a stochastic version of the workhorse SIR (Susceptible-Infectious-Removed) epidemiological model to account for spatial dynamics generated by network interactions. Using the London metropolitan area as a salient case study, we show that commuter network externalities account for about 42% of the propagation of COVID-19. We find that the UK lockdown measure reduced total propagation by 44%, with more than one third of the effect coming from the reduction in network externalities.

2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) is known for its ability to provide various health benefits to infants, such as gut maturation, pathogen resistance, improved immunity, and nervous system development. However, the production of 2'-FL using α-L-fucosidases is hindered by the lack of low-cost natural fucosyl donors and high-efficiency α-L-fucosidases. In this work, a recombinant xyloglucanase from Rhizomucor miehei (RmXEG12A) was applied to produce xyloglucan-oligosaccharide (XyG-oligos) from apple pomace.

Defects such as metal vacancies act as nonradiative recombination centers to deteriorate the photoelectric properties of metal halide perovskites. Nonadiabatic molecular dynamics has demonstrated that alkali metal dopants markedly improve the performance of mixed tin-lead perovskites. Alkali dopants increase the formation energy of tin vacancies to 1 eV, so that the defect concentration is decreased.

Epitaxial heterostructures of colloidal lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) with other semiconductors, especially the technologically important metal chalcogenides, can offer an unprecedented level of control in wavefunction design and exciton/charge carrier engineering. These NC heterostructures are ideal material platforms for efficient optoelectronics and other applications. Existing methods, however, can only yield heterostructures with random connections and distributions of the two components.

Promising alternatives to three-dimensional perovskites, two-dimensional (2D) layered metal halide perovskites have proven their potential in optoelectronic applications due to improved photo- and chemical stability. Nevertheless, photovoltaic devices based on 2D perovskites suffer from poor efficiency owing to unfavorable charge carrier dynamics and energy losses. Focusing on the 2D Dion-Jacobson perovskite phase that is rapidly rising in popularity, we demonstrate that doping of complementary cations into the 3-(aminomethyl)piperidinium perovskite accelerates spontaneous charge separation and slows down charge recombination, both factors improving the photovoltaic performance.

CsPbBr-PbSBr Janus nanocrystals (NCs) are the only nanomaterial where the epitaxial structure of perovskite and chalcogenide materials has been realized at the nanoscale, but their exciton dynamics mechanism has not yet been thoroughly investigated or applied in photodetection applications. This work reports an attractive device performance of perovskite photoconductors based on epitaxial CsPbBr-PbSBr Janus NCs, as well as the carrier relaxation and transfer mechanism of the heterojunction. By a combination of transient optical absorption and quantum dynamics simulation, it is demonstrated that the photogenerated holes on CsPbBr can be successfully extracted by PbSBr, while the hole transfer proceeds about three times faster than energy loss and remains "hot" for about 300 fs.

We herein report the acid/base-steered two distinct reaction pathways of 2-acylbenzoic acids with isatoic anhydrides. In the presence of NaCO, the cascade process consists of the cyclization of 2-acetylbenzoic acid and nucleophilic ring-opening reaction of isatoic anhydride to furnish isobenzofuranone derivatives with high efficiency. However, -toluenesulfonic acid can promote the product isobenzofuranones to undergo sequential intramolecular rearrangment, nucleophilic addition and cyclization reaction to produce diverse isoindolobenzoxazinones in good yields.

Simulations by nonadiabatic (NA) molecular dynamics demonstrate that mixing tin with lead in CHNHPbI can passivate the midgap state created by an interstitial iodine (I) via the imposed compressive strain and upshifted valence band maximum, reduce NA coupling by decreasing electron-hole wave functions overlap, and shortens pure-dephasing time by introducing high-frequency phonon modes. Thus, the charge carrier lifetime extends to 3.6 ns due to the significantly reduced nonradiative electron-hole recombination, which is an order of magnitude longer than the I-containing CHNHPbI, over 2.
