Background: Small airway dysfunction (SAD) and impaired diffusion capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide ( ) are positively associated with a worse prognosis. Individuals with both dysfunctions have been identified in clinical practice and it is unknown whether they have worse health status or need management. We conducted this study to explore the association between SAD and impaired , and the difference between the groups with two dysfunctions, with either one dysfunction and with no dysfunction.

The present study aims to investigate the associations of anxiety and depression with 30-day readmission rates and acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD). Four databases were searched to identify relevant studies published before 13 March 2024.

This study aimed to explore a new classification of severity of COPD based on IOS and associations with acute exacerbations (AE) in patients with COPD.
Methods: The data of our study were based on the baseline and 2-year follow-up data of a prospective cohort in China.
Th2 polarization is a characteristic feature of many immune diseases; its pathogenesis is still being elucidated. Probiotics have immune regulatory effects. This study is aimed at testing the impact of Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LR) DNA on regulating Th2 polarization and elucidating its underlying mechanism.

Previous studies have identified exercise intolerance in patients with mild-to-moderate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The associations of exercise tolerance with lung function decline and acute exacerbation risk in mild-to-moderate COPD is unclear, especially in the community population. We evaluated exercise tolerance in mild-to-moderate COPD and analyzed its associations with respiratory health outcomes.

However, surface micro-kinetics regarding co-adsorption and reaction between organic and oxygen intermediates remain unclear. Here we systematically study the electro-oxidation of aldehydes, alcohols, and amines on Co/Ni-oxyhydroxides with multiple characterizations.

COVID-19 vaccinations can diminish transmission and safeguard people. The evaluation of immunogenicity and safety in high-risk populations, such as lung cancer patients, continues to provide a problem.

Herein, to increase the piezopotential of N-type piezoelectric semiconductors, the P-N heterojunction is designed to inhibit the piezoelectric screening effect (PSE) and increase electron utilization efficiency to enhance nanozyme activity. P-type CuO nanoparticles are in situ grown on N-type piezoelectric BiMoO (BMO) nanoflakes (NFs) to construct heterostructured CuO@BMO by interface engineering.

Data-independent acquisition (DIA)-MS, utilizing hybrid spectral library search strategies, allows for the simultaneous quantification of thousands of proteins, showing promise in enhancing protein identification and quantification precision. However, low-quality profiles can considerably undermine quantitative precision, resulting in inaccurate protein quantification.

Here, we performed a proteomic approach on sera samples from patients with H7N9-virus or SARS-CoV-2-virus infection and healthy controls. Compared to SARS-CoV-2, H7N9-virus infection caused elevated neutrophil concentrations, T cell exhaustion, and increased cytokine/interleukin secretion.

Nevertheless, the impact of KRAS mutation, mutation subtypes, and co-mutations on the effectiveness of immunotherapy remains uncertain. This study aimed to assess the influence of the KRAS mutation on the effectiveness of immunotherapy in NSCLC, specifically examining different subtypes of KRAS mutations and co-mutations.

Current oxidation strategy generally works under harsh conditions including high temperature, high pressure, and/or request for potentially hazardous oxidants, leading to substantial challenges in sustainability and energy efficiency. To this end, direct electrocatalytic epoxidation poses as a promising solution to these issues, yet their industrial applications are limited by the low selectivity, low yield, and poor stability of the electrocatalysts.

The efficacy of N-acetylcysteine (an antioxidant and mucolytic agent) for patients with mild-to-moderate COPD is uncertain. In this multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, we randomly assigned 968 patients with mild-to-moderate COPD to treatment with N-acetylcysteine (600 mg, twice daily) or matched placebo for two years.

Methods: We collected primary HBE cells of healthy nonsmokers and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) smokers, and analyzed the impact of e- cigarette vapor extract (ECE) or cigarette smoke extract (CSE) on HBE cell differentiation and injury by single-cell RNA sequencing, immunostaining, HE staining, qPCR and ELISA.
Background: The previous findings on the correlation between spirometry and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol are intriguing yet conflicting. The aim of this research is to evaluate the relationship between HDL levels and spirometry as well as imaging parameters in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in China.
Methods: This study encompasses a total of 907 COPD patients.
Catheter-related infections are one of the most common nosocomial infections with increasing morbidity and mortality, and robust antibacterial or antifouling catheter coatings remain great challenges for long-term implantation. Herein, multifunctional hydrogel coatings were developed to provide persistent and self-adaptive antifouling and antibacterial effects with self-healing and lubricant capabilities. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) grafts (PVA-Cd) and 4-arm polyethylene glycol (PEG) with adamantane and quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) terminals (QA-PEG-Ad) were crosslinked through host-guest recognitions between adamantane and β-CD moieties to acquire PVEQ coatings.

Yet the impacts of different lung parts, young and mature adult stages, and the different batches of the same conditions on the healthy rat lung microbiome have not been investigated.
Methods: The rat lung microbiome was analyzed to clarify the lung part-dependent and age-dependent differences and to evaluate the effects of several 'batch environmental factors' on normal rats, after eliminating potential contamination.
Background: It is not fully established whether plasma β-amyloid(Aβ)/Aβ and phosphorylated Tau (p-Tau) can effectively detect Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathophysiology in older Chinese adults and how these biomarkers correlate with astrocyte reactivity, Aβ plaque deposition, tau tangle aggregation, and neurodegeneration.
Methods: We recruited 470 older adults and analyzed plasma Aβ/Aβ, p-Tau, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and neurofilament light (NfL) using the Simoa platform. Among them, 301, 195, and 70 underwent magnetic resonance imaging, Aβ and tau positron emission tomography imaging.
