Identification of novel clinical biomarker in clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC) is warranted. Integrating transcriptome (n=1669), DNA methylation (n=577) and copy number data (n=832), we developed a method to identify driver biomarkers by analyzing the omics-level dynamics of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT)-related genes in ccRCC. We first identified 504 expression dynamic changed genes involved in ccRCC-associated key pathways such as EMT, cell cycle, EGFR and PI3K/AKT signaling.

In this paper, a novel in-line modal interferometer for refractive index (RI) sensing is proposed and experimentally fabricated by cascading single-taper and multimode-double- cladding-multimode (MDM) fiber structure. Owing to evanescent field in taper area, the ultra-sensitive and linear intensity-responses to the varied surrounding RI are gained in both single- and double-pass structures. Moreover, the crosstalk from temperature can be effectively discriminated and compensated by means of the RI-free nature of MDM.

Structure and antimicrobial properties of long-chain branched poly (lactic acid).

Long-chain branched poly (lactic acid) (LCB-PLA) with antimicrobial functional group was fabricated through a two-step ring-opening reactive processing for improving antimicrobial properties and broadening the PLA processing window. A combination of linear viscoelasticity and the branch-on-branch (BOB) model predicted probable compositions and chain topologies of the products. It is also explored the antimicrobial properties of LCB-PLA to provide a theoretical basis for broadening the possible applications.

Choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were used as green alternatives to conventional organic solvents for extracting valuable flavonoids from citrus peel waste. The effects of viscosity, pH, and polarity of DESs on the extraction efficiency were investigated. Results revealed linear dependence of extraction yield of citrus flavonoids on the polarity of the hydrogen bond donor (HBD).

A major breakthrough in the classification of soft tissue tumors has been the recent identification of NTRK-fusion related neoplasms which are amenable to highly effective targeted therapies. Despite these therapeutic opportunities, diagnostic challenges have emerged in recognizing tumors characterized by protein kinase fusions, as they are associated with a wide morphologic spectrum, variable risk of malignancy and a rather nonspecific immunoprofile. As such, NTRK-related fusions may occur in infantile fibrosarcoma, lipofibromatosis-like neural tumors (LPF-NTs), tumors resembling malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, etc.

Aloe-emodin, an anthraquinone present in aloe latex, has been shown to have anti-proliferative properties in cervical cancer disease, all cases of which are almost caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), with the products of E6/E7. It is suggested that aloe-emodin may play an important role in HPV-induced cervical cancer cells. Hela and SiHa cells were treated with various concentrations of aloe-emodin.

Resveratrol (RSV), a well-known bioactive compound, has been reported to exert a broad range of health benefits. Accumulating evidence suggests that RSV is beneficial for many metabolic diseases, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study investigated the preventive and therapeutic effects of RSV on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced NAFLD in rats and palmitate acid (PA)-induced hepatocyte steatosis in HepG2 cells.

Modulating effects of polysaccharides from the fruits of Lycium barbarum on the immune response and gut microbiota in cyclophosphamide-treated mice.

In the present study, the effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBPS) on immunoregulation and gut microbiota dysbiosis in cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced mice were investigated to elucidate whether the attenuation of immunosuppression is related to the modulation of the gut microbiota. The results showed that administration of LBPS could protect immune organs (enhancing immune organ indexes and alleviating immune organ damage), enhance the production of immune-related cytokines (IL-2, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α and IFN-γ) and prevent the hepatotoxicity in CTX-induced mice. Additionally, LBPS treatment could promote the production of short-chain fatty acids and modulate the composition of the gut microbiota, increasing the relative abundances of Bacteroidaceae, Lactobacillaceae, Prevotellaceae and Verrucomicrobiaceae, which were positively associated with immune traits.
