Red meat and animal-sourced protein are often disparaged as risk factors for developing metabolic syndrome, while emerging research has shown the beneficial effects of dietary taurine, creatine, carnosine, and anserine which are all exclusively abundant in red meat. Thus, it is imperative to highlight the available evidence to help promote red meat as part of a well-balanced diet to optimize human health. In this study, a bibliometric analysis was conducted to investigate the current research status of dietary taurine, creatine, carnosine, and anserine with metabolic syndrome, identify research hotspots, and delineate developmental trends by utilizing the visualization software CiteSpace.

Reliable biomarkers are in need to predict the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Whilst recent evidence has established the critical role of copper homeostasis in tumor growth and progression, no previous studies have dealt with the copper-related genes (CRGs) signature with prognostic potential in HCC. To develop and validate a CRGs prognostic signature for HCC, we retrospectively included 353 and 142 patients as the development and validation cohort, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluates how climate change affects dengue fever transmission in Singapore, Colombo, Selangor, and Chiang Mai by analyzing data from 2012 to 2020.
  • Projections indicate a significant rise in dengue cases, with the most drastic increases expected under the high-emission SSP585 scenario, especially in Chiang Mai, where the peak incidence could rise over tenfold by the 2090s.
  • Even moderate emissions (SSP126) forecast notable increases in epidemic size and longer outbreak durations across all locations, underscoring the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate future dengue risks in these regions.

Leaf functional traits (LFTs) of desert plants are responsive, adaptable and highly plastic to their environment. However, the macroscale variation in LFTs and driving factors underlying this variation remain unclear, especially for desert plants. Here, we measured eight LFTs, including leaf carbon concentration (LCC), leaf nitrogen concentration (LNC), leaf phosphorus concentration (LPC), specific leaf area (SLA), leaf dry matter content (LDMC), leaf mass per area (LMA), leaf thickness (LTH) and leaf tissue density (LTD) across 114 sites along environmental gradient in the drylands of China and in Guazhou Common Garden and evaluated the effect of environment and phylogeny on the LFTs.

Background: Sedentary behavior is prevalent among people with diabetes and is associated with unfavorable cardiometabolic health. However, there is limited evidence regarding the impact of replacing sedentary time (ST) with physical activity on mortality in people with prediabetes and diabetes. We prospectively examined the association between accelerometer-measured ST and mortality among people with prediabetes and diabetes after adjusting for demographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, and moderate- to vigorous-intensity PA (MVPA).

This study aimed to investigate the causal risk factors for intervertebral disc disorders (IVDD) to help establish prevention strategies for IVDD-related diseases. We performed two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses to investigate the causal effects of body mass index (BMI), education, and lifestyle behaviors (sedentary behavior, smoking, and sleeping) on thoracic/thoracolumbar/lumbosacral IVDD (TTL-IVDD) and cervical IVDD. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was conducted as the primary model to pool effect sizes using odds ratio and 95% confidence interval.

The adsorption and growth mechanisms of C ( = 1-6) on different Cu-Ni surfaces are calculated by density functional theory (DFT). The results demonstrate that Cu doping affects the growth mechanism of the deposited carbon on the catalyst surface. Firstly, the addition of Cu weakens the interaction between C and the adsorbed surface, which is proved by the results of density of states (DOS) and partial density of states (PDOS).

Background: Tranexamic acid (TXA) has long been the antifibrinolytic hemostatic drug of choice for orthopedic surgery. In recent years, the hemostatic effect of epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA) has gradually been recognized by orthopedic surgeons and has begun to be used in hip and knee arthroplasty with little mention of the comparison of these two drugs; Therefore, this study compared the efficacy and safety of EACA and TXA in the perioperative period of elderly patients with trochanteric fractures to verify whether EAC could be a "qualified alternative" to TXA and to provide theoretical support for the clinical application of TXA.

Methods: Two hundred and forty-three patients who received proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) for trochanteric fractures from January 2021 to March 2022 at our institution were included and divided into the EACA group (n = 146) and the TXA group.

Mutations in the cubilin () gene commonly cause Imerslund-Gräsbeck syndrome, while isolated proteinuria as a result of variations is rarely reported. The clinical manifestation is mainly chronic isolated proteinuria in the non-nephrotic range. However, findings to date suggest that isolated proteinuria associated with abnormalities in the gene is benign and does not affect long-term prognosis of kidney function.

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have attracted attention because of their high optoelectronic performance that is fundamentally rooted in the unusual properties of MHP defects. By developing an ab initio-based machine-learning force field, we sample the structural dynamics of MHPs on a nanosecond time scale and show that halide vacancies create midgap trap states in the MHP bulk but not on a surface. Deep traps result from Pb-Pb dimers that can form across the vacancy in only the bulk.
