Dynamic compression of dense oxide (Gd3Ga5O12) from 0.4 to 2.6 TPa: Universal Hugoniot of fluid metals.

Materials at high pressures and temperatures are of great current interest for warm dense matter physics, planetary sciences, and inertial fusion energy research. Shock-compression equation-of-state data and optical reflectivities of the fluid dense oxide, Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG), were measured at extremely high pressures up to 2.6 TPa (26 Mbar) generated by high-power laser irradiation and magnetically-driven hypervelocity impacts.

Influence of Newtonian heating on three dimensional MHD flow of couple stress nanofluid with viscous dissipation and Joule heating.

The present exploration discusses the influence of Newtonian heating on the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) three dimensional couple stress nanofluid past a stretching surface. Viscous dissipation and Joule heating effects are also considered. Moreover, the nanofluid model includes the combined effects of thermophoresis and Brownian motion.

Pressure control of magnetic clusters in strongly inhomogeneous ferromagnetic chalcopyrites.

Background: Regulation of reproduction is now considered to be carried out by the kisspeptin and its receptor, GPR54 or Kiss1r. Mutations of either Kiss1 or Kiss1r in humans and mice result in profound hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. The present study was aimed to determine whether the levels of kisspeptin are associated with male infertility.

Elastic liposome-based gel for topical delivery of 5-fluorouracil: in vitro and in vivo investigation.

Objective: This investigation has focused to characterize the elastic liposome containing 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and to enhance drug permeation across stratum corneum (SC) of the skin (rat) using various surfactants and in vivo dermal toxicity evaluation.

Methodology: 5-FU-loaded elastic liposomes were developed, prepared and characterized for their entrapment efficiency, vesicle size, number of vesicles, morphological characteristics, surface charge and turbidity. In vitro drug release profile, in vitro skin permeation potential and in vitro hemolytic ability of the formulation have been evaluated to compare with drug solution for 24 h.

Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia in India: cure remains a distant dream!

There is paucity of outcome data regarding juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia from India. We report a series of eight children. Three had monosomy 7 and one had complex cytogenetics.

Two years experience with tunneled dialysis catheters in patients requiring haemodialysis.

Objective: To look for survival rate and major reasons behind the failure of tunnelled dialysis catheters in patients on haemodialysis.

Methods: The retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Interventional Radiology, Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, and comprised records of 100 consecutive subjects from a list of patients in whom tunnelled cuffed catheters were placed from February 2009 to January 2011 and were followed up for two years. Data was collected on a proforma from the hospital database and medical records of patients.

We report an unusual robust ferromagnetic order above room temperature upon amorphization of perovskite [YCrO3] in pulsed laser deposited thin films. Tweaking the magnetism of MoS2 nanoribbon with hydrogen and carbon passivation.

Using density functional theory (DFT), we report the modulated electronic and magnetic properties of MoS2 nanoribbon by passivating the ribbon edges with H and C separately. For the modeled symmetric MoS2 nanoribbon with a zig-zag type edge, one side is terminated at Mo and the other side is terminated at S. For the zig-zag type, we have studied two ribbons of width ~3 Å and 6 Å respectively.

Optical analysis of hafnium oxide-aluminum multilayer structures for transparent heat mirrors.

We report on HfO2/Al/HfO2 multilayer thin films for heat mirror applications prepared on corning glass substrates by electron beam evaporation. Films fabricated at a substrate temperature of 100 °C show nano-polycrystals of HfO2 embedded in a disordered lattice according to X-ray diffraction results. Atomic force microscopy revealed that HfO2/Al/HfO2 layers possess smooth surface that is appropriate for optical heat mirror applications.

Isolated bilateral uveitis in child with hypereosinophilic syndrome.

The ocular involvement has rarely been described in hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES). We report an 8-year-old girl with HES and isolated bilateral uveitis as end-organ damage. Almost 20 months after detection of persistent asymptomatic eosinophilia, she developed complete loss of vision in right eye due to retinal detachment and decreased vision in left eye.
