Dengue is a mosquito-borne virus and the primary cause of arthropod-borne infectious disease in the world. Dengue fever is caused by any of 4 distinct serotypes of single-stranded RNA viruses of the genus Flavivirus. Infection by one serotype results in lifelong immunity to that serotype but not to others.
