Prcis: Large Canadian full-scope, shared-care teleglaucoma facilitates efficient management and diversion of medically stable patients away from overburdened subspecialty clinics while allowing patients the convenience of shorter travel, shorter wait time, and continuity with one provider. This report shares Care1 protocol, early patient characteristics, and quality data.
Purpose: This paper describes early experience with Care1, a large full-scope, shared-care teleglaucoma program.
Purpose: Hydroxyapatite (HA) orbital implants are commonly used for the anophthalmic socket. With a HA implant, if motility is not satisfactory then a peg system can be surgically placed in attempts to improve motility. The authors report the technique and results of 83 patients who received motility peg placement over an 8-year period by a single surgeon.

Methods: The clinical records of 1232 patients seen by an on-call ophthalmology resident at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Eye Clinic were reviewed.
Objective: To explore the type and prevalence of oral mucosal lesions among adults with primary HIV infection (PHI) compared with HIV-negative adults at high risk for HIV disease, and in relation to HIV viral load.
Methods: We conducted standardized oral examinations to identify specific oral mucosal lesions among adults with PHI, both pre-seroconversion and post- seroconversion-recently infected, compared with HIV-negative adults. We compared the group with oral lesions to those without oral lesions with respect to HIV-RNA load and CD4 + T-cell count.
Case Report: We report a case of traumatic dislocation of the globe into the maxillary sinus following a bull-riding incident.
Comments: Traumatic dislocations of the eye into the sinuses are rare, and urgent management and surgical repair are indicated.

Background: We present a retrospective review of all biopsy-positive cases of giant cell arteritis (GCA) presenting to a neuro-ophthalmology practice in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Methods: Records of 141 consecutive patients who underwent temporal artery biopsy at the Saskatoon Eye Centre from July 1998 through June 2003 were reviewed. Patients that were biopsy-positive for GCA were studied and an estimated regional incidence was calculated.
Background: We assessed human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antibody seroreversion among individuals initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) during acute/early HIV infection and determined whether seroreversion was associated with loss of cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses.
Methods: Subjects in a cohort with acute/early HIV infection (<12 months into infection) who initiated ART within 28 days after study entry and maintained HIV type 1 ribonucleic acid levels of < or =500 copies/mL for >24 weeks were selected. Two clinically available second-generation enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) and a confirmatory Western blot were used to screen subjects for antibody reversion.
Objectives: Primary, or transmitted, drug resistance is common among treatment naive patients recently infected with HIV-1, and impairs response to anti-retroviral therapy. We previously observed that patients with secondary resistance (developed in response to anti-retroviral treatment) who chose to stop an anti-retroviral regimen experience rapid overgrowth of drug resistant viruses by wild-type virus of higher pol replication capacity. We sought to determine if primary drug resistance would be lost at a rapid rate, and viral pol replication capacity would increase, in the absence of treatment.

Methods: Virus replication over a single cycle was measured by use of a viral test vector containing patient-derived HIV-1 protease and reverse transcriptase gene segments.
Results: Among 191 recently infected patients, pol RC ranged widely, with only 6% of the variance explained by drug-resistance mutations.
