Objective: Gynecologic oncologist involvement in the surgical team of patients with placenta percreta has shown improved patient outcomes. Yet, stratification of cases is dependent on identification of placenta percreta by ultrasonography which has a poor detection rate. To allow patients to receive optimal team management by pre-operative stratification our objective was to identify the pre-operative characteristics of patients with previously underdiagnosed placenta percreta.

Methods: In a multicenter cohort study (NIH RECOVER [Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery]-Pregnancy Cohort), individuals who were pregnant during their first SARS-CoV-2 infection were enrolled across the United States from December 2021 to September 2023, either within 30 days of their infection or at differential time points thereafter. The primary outcome was PASC , defined as score of 12 or higher based on symptoms and severity as previously published by the NIH RECOVER-Adult Cohort, at the first study visit at least 6 months after the participant's first SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Humanized mice are limited in terms of modeling human immunity, particularly with regards to antibody responses. Here we constructed a humanized (THX) mouse by grafting non-γ-irradiated, genetically myeloablated Kit mutant immunodeficient pups with human cord blood CD34 cells, followed by 17β-estradiol conditioning to promote immune cell differentiation. THX mice reconstitute a human lymphoid and myeloid immune system, including marginal zone B cells, germinal center B cells, follicular helper T cells and neutrophils, and develop well-formed lymph nodes and intestinal lymphoid tissue, including Peyer's patches, and human thymic epithelial cells.

A systematic search was conducted on November 1, 2022, of MEDLINE via PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies (PROSPERO ID # CRD42022368211). A total of 11 articles met our inclusion criteria, representing the data of a total of 1,044 cases.

Both physician and physical hospital resource allocation/utilization remains a challenge in PAS cases including intensive care unit (ICU) beds. The primary objective of the present study was to identify preoperative risk factors for ICU admission and create an ICU admission prediction model for patient counseling and resource utilization decision making in an evidence-based manner.

While antenatal vaginal bleeding in the setting of PAS is common, the implications of this on overall outcomes remain unknown. Our primary objective was to identify the implications of antenatal vaginal bleeding in the setting of suspected PAS on both maternal and fetal outcomes.

The objective of this review is to identify risk factors, present signs and symptoms, identify methods of diagnosis, and identify best management practices on the basis of published case reviews.
Data Sources: PubMed and MEDLINE (Ovid) databases were searched for citations regarding hepatic infarction in pregnancy or the postpartum period from database inception until the study date of December 18, 2023.
This review assessed the efficacy and safety of pharmacologic agents (prostaglandins, oxytocin, mifepristone, hyaluronidase, and nitric oxide donors) and mechanical methods (single- and double-balloon catheters, laminaria, membrane stripping, and amniotomy) and those generally considered under the rubric of complementary medicine (castor oil, nipple stimulation, sexual intercourse, herbal medicine, and acupuncture). A substantial body of published reports, including 2 large network meta-analyses, support the safety and efficacy of misoprostol (PGE1) when used for cervical ripening and labor induction. Misoprostol administered vaginally at doses of 50 μg has the highest probability of achieving vaginal delivery within 24 hours.

A diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum relies on ultrasonographic findings with modest positive predictive value. Exosomal microRNAs are small RNA molecules that reflect the cellular processes of the origin tissues.

Background: Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) represents a particularly morbid condition for which blood transfusion is the leading cause. Delivery by cesarean hysterectomy is recommended for the management of PAS. Massive Transfusion Protocols (MTP) in obstetrics vary in definition and implementation.

We used long-term video and genetic data to evaluate social interactions among wild, independent-aged black bear on a conservation property in western Montana, USA. We used multinomial logistic regression to evaluate predictions about male-male interactions within the context of individual fitness, female-female interactions within the context of inclusive fitness, and male-female interactions within the context of female counterstrategies to infanticide.

Objective: To learn about the perceptions of healthcare personnel (HCP) on the barriers they encounter when performing infection prevention and control (IPC) practices in labor and delivery to help inform future IPC resources tailored to this setting.
Design: Qualitative focus groups.
Setting: Labor and delivery units in acute-care settings.
Objective: To estimate the maternal survival and live-birth rates in pregnant women with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who are treated with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Data Sources: From database inception through August 2023, we explored MEDLINE, Web of Science, EMBASE, CINAHL, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials.
Objective: Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is a continuum of placental conditions characterized by significant maternal and neonatal morbidity. Tools to accurately predict postoperative morbidity have been lacking due to the hemodynamic changes of pregnancy. The surgical Apgar score (SAS) is a 10-point scale that assesses heart rate, mean arterial pressure, and estimated blood loss.

Hunting bullets are often comprised of a lead core covered with a copper alloy jacket. When the bullet collides with an animal, particles-sometimes millions-can shed from the projectile and embed in animal tissues. Those lead fragments can persist in game meat and remain in the discarded viscera that many wildlife species scavenge.

The publicly available cell line characterization and compound screening data from the NCI-60 assay have significantly contributed to the understanding of cellular mechanisms targeted by new oncology agents. Signature sensitivity/resistance patterns generated for a given chemotherapeutic agent against the NCI-60 panel have long served as fingerprint presentations that encompass target information and the mechanism of action associated with the tested agent.

Subsequently, we aimed to determine a distance-dependent relationship between PAS morbidity and distance travelled by patients in rural communities.
Study Design: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who had PAS histopathological confirmation and delivery at our institution from 2005 to 2022.
Objective: Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders are characterized by an abnormal adherence of the placenta to the uterine myometrium. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an important adjunct in antenatal diagnosis. We sought to determine if there are patient and MRI characteristics that limit the accuracy of PAS diagnosis and degree of invasion.

Objective: To examine maternal and perinatal outcomes associated with ECMO used for COVID-19 with respiratory failure during pregnancy.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospective multicenter cohort study examined pregnant and postpartum patients who required ECMO for COVID-19 respiratory failure at 25 hospitals across the US.
Bald eagles often scavenge hunting remains embedded with lead bullet fragments, which debilitate and kill many eagles. Measuring blood lead concentrations (BLC) in free-flying bald eagles and those received by rehabilitators allows researchers to both actively and opportunistically monitor exposure. From 2012 to 2022, we captured 62 free-flying bald eagles and measured their BLC following the big-game hunting season in Montana, USA, which occurs from late October through late November.

Morbidity is related to the overall degree of placental adherence, and thus patients with placenta increta or percreta represent a high-risk category of patients. Hemorrhage and transfusion of blood products represent 90% of placenta accreta spectrum morbidity.
