Melioidosis is an infectious disease that can present with multiple foci of disease involvement. Assessment of disease extent can be difficult, especially in musculoskeletal, visceral and soft tissue infection. This study examined the usefulness of white cell scans in this condition.

Introduction: Intra-abdominal hypertension is becoming increasingly recognised in intensive care patients. The objective of this paper was to review the modern published literature to establish a representative consensus view of the incidence, causes, pathophysiology, management and outcome of intra-abdominal hypertension.
Methods: A computerised MEDLINE search from 1966 to November 2000 was conducted using the Medical Subject Heading and textwords "abdominal", "compartment syndromes", "intra-abdominal" and "hypertension" and "pressure".
The reductive oxyamination of model glycan structures has been investigated as a mild, alternative tagging procedure to reductive amination using O-(4-nitrobenzyl)-hydroxylamine. Oxime formation was quantitative, but the reduction step did not always go to completion. Novel O- and N-substituted 7-hydroxycoumaryl- and 3-methoxybenzylhydroxylamines were synthesized and shown to couple quantitatively with model saccharides by oxime formation and reductive hydroxyamination, respectively, under very mild, aqueous conditions.
