A facile one-pot, metal-free method for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzothiazoles was developed, which includes an initial reaction of electron-deficient 2-haloanilines with aromatic isothiocyanates and the subsequent intramolecular cyclization of the resulting thioureas through the SAr mechanism. This one-pot, atom-economical, robust, and scalable method avoids the use of reagents such as acid chlorides and Lawesson's reagent that are difficult to handle.

Objective: Mebendazole and other anti-parasitic drugs are being used off-prescription based on social media and unofficial accounts of their anti-cancer activity. The purpose of this study was to conduct a controlled evaluation of mebendazole's therapeutic efficacy in cell culture and in vivo models of ovarian cancer. The majority of ovarian cancers harbor p53 null or missense mutations, therefore the effects of p53 mutations and a mutant p53 reactivator, PRIMA-1 (APR246) on mebendazole activity were evaluated.

Current ovarian cancer maintenance therapy is limited by toxicity and no proven impact on overall survival. To study a maintenance strategy targeted at missense mutant p53, we hypothesized that the release of mutant p53 from mortalin inhibition by the SHetA2 drug combined with reactivation of mutant p53 with the PRIMA-1 drug inhibits growth and tumor establishment synergistically in a mutant-p53 dependent manner. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data and serous ovarian tumors were evaluated for TP53 and HSPA9/mortalin status.

Human fallopian tube fimbria secretory epithelial cells (hFTSECs) are considered an origin of ovarian cancer and methods for their culture from fallopian tube specimens have been reported. Our objective was to determine whether characteristics of the donors or surgeries were associated with the capacities of fimbria specimens to generate hFTSEC cultures or their immune profiles. There were no surgical complications attributable to fallopian tube removal.

Background: Circulating miRNAs have momentous clinical relevance as prognostic biomarkers and in the progression of solid tumors. Recognizing novel candidates of neuroblastoma-specific circulating miRNAs would allow us to identify potential prognostic biomarkers that could predict the switch from favorable to high-risk metastatic neuroblastoma (HR-NB).

Results: Utilizing mouse models of favorable and HR-NB and whole miRnome profiling, we identified high serum levels of 34 and low levels of 46 miRNAs in animals with HR-NB.

Clinical outcomes for high-risk neuroblastoma patients remains poor, with only 40-50% 5-Year overall survival (OS) and <10% long-term survival. The ongoing acquisition of genetic/molecular rearrangements in undifferentiated neural crest cells may endorse neuroblastoma progression. This study recognized the loss of Retinal Degeneration protein 3, RD3 in aggressive neuroblastoma, and identified its influence in better clinical outcomes and defined its novel metastasis suppressor function.

Background: Determining the driving factors and molecular flow-through that define the switch from favorable to aggressive high-risk disease is critical to the betterment of neuroblastoma cure.

Methods: In this study, we examined the cytogenetic and tumorigenic physiognomies of distinct population of metastatic site- derived aggressive cells (MSDACs) from high-risk tumors, and showed the influence of acquired genetic rearrangements on poor patient outcomes.

Results: Karyotyping in SH-SY5Y and MSDACs revealed trisomy of 1q, with additional non-random chromosomal rearrangements on 1q32, 8p23, 9q34, 15q24, 22q13 (additions), and 7q32 (deletion).

The influence of Streptococcus phocae PI80 on the shelf life of Sardinella longiceps and Penaeus monodon was investigated by measurement of microbial and chemical analysis after appraising the safety of the protective probiotic culture in wistar rat's model. The results of this safety assessment indicate that oral administration of protective culture does not demonstrate any toxicological effects. Consumption of this LAB strain had no adverse effects on animal's general health status, hematology, blood biochemistry, histology parameters, or on the incidence of bacterial translocation.
