Background: Intrauterine food restriction (IFR) during pregnancy is associated with low birth weight (LBW) and obesity in adulthood. It is known that white adipose tissue (WAT) plays critical metabolic and endocrine functions; however, this tissue's behavior before weight gain and obesity into adulthood is poorly studied. Thus, we evaluated the repercussions of IFR on the lipogenesis and lipolysis processes in the offspring and described the effects on WAT inflammatory cytokine production and secretion.

Background: Diet is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for the incidence of gastric cancer.

Objective: To carry out an exploratory analysis on the dietary patterns of individuals with gastric adenocarcinoma (AdG) in the Central Brazil region.

Methods: This is a case-control study carried out from April 2019 to July 2022, in three reference centers for cancer treatment in Goiânia-GO.

Background: Voluntary post-mortem donation to science (PDS) is the most appropriate source for body dissection in medical education and training, and highly useful for biomedical research. In Mexico, unclaimed bodies are no longer a legal source, but PDS is legally possible, although scarcely facilitated, and mostly ignored by the general population. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the attitude and willingness for PDS and to identify a sociodemographic profile of people with willingness toward PDS.

The development of smart wearable solutions for monitoring daily life health status is increasingly popular, with chest straps and wristbands being predominant. This study introduces a novel sensorized T-shirt design with textile electrodes connected via a knitting technique to a Movesense device. We aimed to investigate the impact of stationary and movement actions on electrocardiography (ECG) and heart rate (HR) measurements using our sensorized T-shirt.

This study investigates the influence of sex and a dietary transition on the gut microbiota of a local Portuguese pig breed. Three groups of male Alentejano pigs ( = 10 each) were raised between ~40 and 160 kg LW. Group C included pigs that were surgically castrated, while the I group included intact ones; both were fed with commercial diets.

IGF2BP1 is a protein that controls the stability, localization, and translation of various mRNA targets. Poor clinical outcomes in numerous cancer types have been associated with its overexpression. As it has been demonstrated to impede tumor growth and metastasis in animal models, inhibiting IGF2BP1 function is a promising strategy for combating cancer.

Lead-zinc mine tailing waste can have significant environmental impacts due to its potential for releasing toxic elements into the surroundings and contaminating local soil and water. This paper focuses on the valorization of lead-zinc mine tailing waste through geopolymerization, a sustainable process that can transform waste into useful building materials. Geopolymer matrixes with various mixtures of mine tailing (0-100 wt%), fly ash (0-100 wt%), and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum (0, 5, and 10 wt%) were synthesized using different activators such as sodium hydroxide (NaOH, 5, 10 M) and sodium silicate (waterglass, 0, 12.

Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a relevant public health problem is worldwide. From the change in the health care of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Primary Health Care (PHC), nurses gained autonomy in their workflow, which requires a significant technological arsenal for the planning, organization and functioning of services. It is believed that the development of a mobile application for the care/prevention of HIV will contribute to the strengthening of care, resulting in greater autonomy and empowerment of nurses in Primary Health Care.

Matrix vesicles are a special class of extracellular vesicles thought to actively contribute to both physiologic and pathologic mineralization. Proteomic studies have shown that matrix vesicles possess high amounts of annexin A5, suggesting that the protein might have multiple roles at the sites of calcification. Currently, Annexin A5 is thought to promote the nucleation of apatitic minerals close to the inner leaflet of the matrix vesicles' membrane enriched in phosphatidylserine and Ca.

Background: Subjective memory complaints (SMCs) are a possible prodrome of cognitive decline but are understudied in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). We aimed to estimate the prevalence of SMCs in a large, nationally representative sample of older adults from Brazil and to identify sociodemographic and health-related factors that are associated with SMCs independently of objective memory.

Methods: Baseline data (n = 7831) from the ELSI-Brazil study, a national representative sample of adults aged 50 and over.

Home hemodialysis (HD) and automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) have advantages over HD in hospitals or HD centers. Home therapies are generally less expensive and give patients greater mobility and freedom for work, school, family, and recreational activities. Technological advances have made it possible to complement APD with devices for remote monitoring (RM) of the patient.

The orphan nuclear receptor Tailless (Tll) exhibits conserved roles in brain formation and maintenance that are shared, for example, with vertebrate orthologous forms (Tlx). However, the early expression of tll in two gap domains in the segmentation cascade of Drosophila is unusual even for most other insects. Here we investigate tll regulation on pair-rule stripes.

Toxoplasmosis is a significant public health concern with limited therapeutic options. The medicines for malaria venture (MMV) developed the pandemic response box (PRB) containing 400 drug-like molecules with broad pathogen activity. The aim of this work is to evaluate PRB compounds for their anti- activity and identify promising candidates for further evaluation.

Glucose homeostasis is essential for energy production and the central nervous system function, depending on glycogen metabolism. Glycogen storage diseases (GSD) are caused by enzymatic defects of the glycogen degradation and mainly involve the liver since the inhibition of hepatic glycogen breakdown results in its excessive storage and hepatomegaly. Other findings are hypoglycemia and hyperlactatemia and consequent neurological symptoms.

INPP5K (inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatase K) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident enzyme that acts as a phosphoinositide (PI) 5-phosphatase, capable of dephosphorylating various PIs including PI 4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P), a key phosphoinositide found in the plasma membrane. Given its ER localization and substrate specificity, INPP5K may play a role in ER-plasma membrane contact sites. Furthermore, PI(4,5)P serves as a substrate for phospholipase C, an enzyme activated downstream of extracellular agonists acting on Gq-coupled receptors or tyrosine-kinase receptors, leading to IP production and subsequent release of Ca from the ER, the primary intracellular Ca storage organelle.

This study assessed the technological feasibility of microencapsulating vitamin C (VC) via coacervation between yeast cells (YC) and xanthan gum (XG). The interaction efficiency between YC and XG was examined across various pHs and ratios, while characterizing the microcapsules in terms of encapsulation efficiency, particle size, and thermal and chemical stability. Additionally, in vitro digestion experiments were conducted to determine the digestion efficiency and bioavailability of the bioactive compound.

The quest for healthiness has driven the meat industry to seek solutions to reduce or replace saturated animal fat. The replacement (partial or total) of animal fat by polyunsaturated vegetable oils rich in omega fatty acids has gained prominence in terms of making a product healthier. However, an obstacle to this strategy is the effects on the sensory characteristics of the products, which may be unfavorable to consumers.
