Our online lives generate a wealth of behavioral records--which are stored and leveraged by technology platforms. These data can be used to create value for users by personalizing services. At the same time, however, it also poses a threat to people's privacy by offering a highly intimate window into their private traits (e.

Chronic wounds have a significant impact on a patient's quality of life. Different pathologies, such as poor blood supply and tissue breakdown, may lead to inadequate oxygenation of the wound. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is a widely used treatment for an increasing number of medical practices.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic forced many countries into lockdowns to limit the spread of infection. Israel's containment measures included school closures, mobility restrictions, and workforce reductions. Our study evaluated the effect of COVID-19 on the occurrence and patterns of burn injuries.

Background: Burns are estimated to cause up to 1% of admissions to emergency department in low- and middle-income countries, and up to 220 admissions per 100 K people in high income countries. Knowing the special features in every population could help formulate prevention strategies tailored for the specific group targeted and thus help decrease the incidence of burns in the general population.

Patients And Methods: We examined all patients files admitted to the Rappaport hospital within Rambam Medical Center between the years 2012-2016.

Coronavirus disease 2019 obliged many countries to apply lockdown policies to contain the spread of infection. The restrictions in Israel included limitations on movement, reduction of working capacity, and closure of the educational system. The present study focused on patients treated at a referral center for burns in northern Israel.

Most pediatric burns are 2nd degree partial thickness, and most will heal spontaneously by providing a good healing environment, though there is no standardized treatment protocol. Aquacel Ag® has shown good clinical results in reducing the need for frequent dressing changes in the pediatric population. This study's goal was to review our experience using this dressing for pediatric partial thickness burns in order to optimize and customize its use.

The outstanding performance of deep learning (DL) for computer vision and natural language processing has fueled increased interest in applying these algorithms more broadly in both research and practice. This study investigates the application of DL techniques to classification of large sparse behavioral data-which has become ubiquitous in the age of big data collection. We report on an extensive search through DL architecture variants and compare the predictive performance of DL with that of carefully regularized logistic regression (LR), which previously (and repeatedly) has been found to be the most accurate machine learning technique generally for sparse behavioral data.

Unlabelled: The authors present 25 cases and an in-depth 4-minute video of fully awake aesthetic breast reduction, which was made possible by thoracic epidural anesthesia. There are obvious and important advantages to this technique. Not only does this allow for intraoperative patient cooperation (i.

In this paper, a design for a 1 × 4 optical power splitter based on the multimode interference (MMI) coupler in a silicon (Si)-gallium nitride (GaN) slot waveguide structure is presented-to our knowledge, for the first time. Si and GaN were found as suitable materials for the slot waveguide structure. Numerical optimizations were carried out on the device parameters using the full vectorial-beam propagation method (FV-BPM).

Previous works reported that linear optics could be used to observe sub-wavelength features with a conventional optical microscope. Yet, the ability to reach a sub-200 nm resolution with a visible light remains limited. We present a novel widely-applicable method, where particle trapping is employed to overcome this limit.

Utilizing the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of metallic nanoparticles enables their usage as contrast agents in a variety of applications for medical diagnostics and treatment. Those applications can use both the very strong absorption and scattering properties of the metallic nanoparticle due to their LSPR effects. There are certain applications where domination of the scattering over absorption or vice versa would be an advantage.

Objective: To report the novel use of acellular dermal matrix allograft to treat a complex open fracture of the arm.

Methods: Case report outlining the steps taken to treat the fracture and soft tissue trauma.

Results: The complexity of the wound required multiple types of treatments that ultimately resulted in a healed fracture and full wound closure.

There are very few studies in the English literature that evaluate the patient satisfaction after treatment using intense pulsed light (IPL) and there is no reported study comparing the results of the three major IPL applications: rejuvenation, hair removal, and treatment of small vascular lesions. This study was designed to compare results after IPL treatment for skin rejuvenation, hair removal, and vascular lesions. Three groups of 30 consecutive patients having skin rejuvenation, hair removal, and small vascular lesions were selected and treated with the same IPL system.

During the 2006 war between Israel and Lebanon, 282 Israeli soldiers were evacuated to Rambam Health Care Campus. Of these, 210 were admitted for observation or treatment, and 15 of these were admitted to the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Thirty-five other soldiers, hospitalized in other departments, required the care of Plastic Surgeons, either for conservative or surgical treatment.

The maximal recommended local anesthetic dose of lidocaine is 7 mg/kg; higher doses are used in tumescent liposuction. The objective of this study was to characterize the pharmacokinetics of high-dose diluted lidocaine administered together with epinephrine for local anesthesia in facelift procedures. This was a prospective study of six female patients undergoing elective facelift surgery.

Background: Removal of skin lesions is one of the most common surgical procedures, with the number increasing progressively since the 1980s.

Objective: We tried to evaluate the satisfaction level of patients after removal of skin lesions and to identify the factors influencing it.

Study Design: The study group consisted of 138 patients who had skin lesions removed by shaving or primary excision and closure.

Background: The treatment of distal tibial osteomyelitis represents a challenge for orthopedic and plastic surgeons. The affected tissues should be debrided and good vascularized tissue should cover the defect, but the option of a muscle flap covering the area is limited. Free flaps are used but require longer operating time and experience with microsurgery, may result in donor-site morbidity, and sometimes add bulky tissue to the area.

Background: Highly active antiretroviral therapy for HIV-infected patients causes metabolic changes known as the lipodystrophy syndrome. Autologous fat injections, dermal fat grafts, malar implants and injected fillers have been reported as treatment options.

Objective: To evaluate the results of HIV-infected patients treated with Bio-Alcamid for facial lipoatrophy.

Passing written and oral certifying examinations is a prerequisite to obtaining the license required from the Ministry of Health to start practicing as a Plastic Surgeon in Israel. In recent years, residents have complained about the unfairness of the method of the oral examination in terms of questions that varied according to the examiner. Before instituting changes, the position and attitudes of plastic surgeons in Israel, both senior surgeons and residents, regarding the oral examination was investigated.
