The aim of this study is to evaluate the cooperative interactions between formulation variables of ropinirole transdermal patches and characterize the effects of drug loading and crystallinity, degree of ionization and drug-polymer solubilization, functionalization of acrylate polymeric basis, and the addition of permeation enhancers over the release profiles. Several series of transdermal films based on carboxylic or hydroxylic acrylates (DuroTak®) and containing 1 to 10% ropinirole hydrochloride were laminated by mold-casting and evaporation. Formulations were characterized for crystallinity, drug particle size, drug assay, and residual solvents.

Capacitive resistive electric transfer (CRET), a radiofrequency at 448 kHz, increases flexibility in quadricep muscles of human athletes. To assess whether CRET would result in clinical and biomechanical improvements in horses with thoracolumbar pain, 18 sport horses were divided into two groups: CRET ( = 9), subjected to four CRET sessions, during two consecutive weeks, and SHAM ( = 9), subjected to the same procedure with the device off. Clinical examination and accelerometry were performed before and after the four sessions.

Background: In the development of efficacious driven gait orthoses (DGO), it is an added value to consider patients' and therapists' perspectives concerning robot-assisted gait training (RAGT). A better understanding of these issues may improve the process of care and outcome.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine stroke patients' motivation and expectations of RAGT, and therapists' expectations and perspectives on the usability of RAGT.

Many institutionalized patients with psychiatric disease have been discharged into the community and the patients who remain hospitalized are at a particularly high risk for dental disease. This study assessed the oral health and treatment needs of chronically hospitalized patients with psychiatric disease in Israel. A random sample of 301 patients hospitalized for more than 1 year in 14 of 18 psychiatric institutions in Israel was drawn from the National Psychiatric Hospitalization Registry, and 84.

Background And Objectives: A safety culture is essential to minimize errors and adverse events. Its measurement is needed to design activities in order to improve it. This paper describes the methods and main results of a study on safety climate in a nation-wide representative sample of public hospitals of the Spanish NHS.

Objective: Psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, mood disorders, and organic brain disorders) and their treatment may lead to oral diseases, but assessment of dental status and oral care needs among patients with these disorders is lacking. This study reports changes in dental health and oral care needs of psychiatric inpatients after 1998, when psychiatric hospitals in Israel were required to provide regular dental examinations and treatment for every inpatient hospitalized longer than a year.

Methods: Two epidemiological cohorts from 1997 and 2006 representing long-term psychiatric inpatients before (N=431) and after (N=254) the reform of dental services were compared on the standardized criteria of the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index scores and DMFT component scores, as well as on the use of and need for dentures.

Background: There is increasing evidence that metabolic adverse effects associated with antiretroviral therapy may translate into an increased cardiovascular risk in HIV-1-infected patients.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) among HIV-1-infected persons, and to investigate any association between them, stage of HIV-1 disease, and use of antiretroviral therapies.

Methods: Multicentric, cross-sectional analysis of CVD risk factors of treated patients in the VACH cohort.

Basal breast carcinomas triple negative for estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and Her2/neu breast carcinomas are more aggressive than conventional neoplasms. We studied 64 cases with immunohistochemistry, using 23 antibodies, to characterize diverse pathological pathways. A basal cytokeratin was identified in 81% of tumors and vimentin was identified in 55%.

Reasons For Performing Study: Athletic taping is used frequently by human athletes to stabilise, maintain or strengthen soft tissue structures, but empirical evidence supporting any changes in equine kinematics is lacking.

Objectives: To assess the effects of athletic taping of the fetlock applied by an experienced athletic trainer on forelimb mechanics in healthy horses.

Hypotheses: That athletic taping of the distal forelimb reduces 1) hyperextension of the fetlock joint during stance, 2) flexion of the fetlock joint during swing and 3) ground reaction forces during stance.

Multicenter clinical trials have established that the adjunctive use of the subgingival controlled release of chlorhexidine, in the form of the PerioChip, significantly reduces pocket probing depth, improves probing attachment levels, and reduces bleeding on probing compared to scaling and root planing alone, for periods up to 9 months. The purpose of the present study was to report on the adjunctive use of the PerioChip for the long-term management of adult periodontitis for 2 years. A total of 836 patients with adult periodontitis from private dental offices were recruited into the trial.
