Unilateral submandibular gland aplasia with ipsilateral sublingual gland hypertrophy presenting as a neck mass.

The congenital absence of the major salivary glands is a very infrequent disorder, in which several glands are usually involved at the same time. Sometimes this disorder can be associated with other developmental anomalies. The unilateral aplasia of the submandibular gland is an extremely rare finding with only 14 cases reported in the literature.

[Maxillary sinus haemangioma].

We report the case of 71-year-old woman with no prior history who had a left maxillary mass for 6 months. Axial Tomography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance revealed a lesion of 7.7x6.

Life-threatening pseudoaneurysm of the facial artery after dental extraction: successful treatment with emergent endovascular embolization.

Vascular complications after third molar extraction are very rare but may cause a life-threatening situation. The case presented is that of a 25-year-old male who appeared at our emergency department with severe dyspnea and increasing swelling of the left submandibular area 3 days after dental extraction. CT angiography and digital subtraction angiography demonstrated a pseudoaneurysm of the facial artery.

Randomized phase II study of cisplatin and 5-FU continuous infusion (PF) versus cisplatin, UFT and vinorelbine (UFTVP) as induction chemotherapy in locally advanced squamous cell head and neck cancer (LA-SCHNC).

Objectives: We conducted a multicentric randomized phase II trial comparing 5-FU continuous infusion (PF) and cisplatin, UFT and vinorelbine (UFTVP) as induction chemotherapy (IC) in locally advanced squamous cell head and neck cancer (LA-SCHNC). Primary objective was complete response (CR) to IC and overall survival (OS) was a secondary objective.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma. Cytometric parameters of prognostic interest.

Objectives: The present study was made in order to find possible prognostic factors in oral squamous cell carcinoma, given that it is a frequent disease (3-4% of all malignant tumors) and is the cause of a high morbidity and mortality which justifies any attempt to contribute something towards the understanding of this pathology.

Study Design: 81 oral squamous cell carcinomas, treated with the same procedure, and retrieved from the archive of the Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla (Santander) were studied. Flow cytometry was carried out on 67 of the samples.

Epidermoid carcinoma of the lip: an immunohistochemical study.

Objectives: To determine the expression of the c-erb-B2, p53, bcl-2, Ki67 and CD44varV6 proteins, and to establish their prognostic value in epidermoid carcinoma of the lip.

Study Design: Immunohistochemical study of the c-erb-B2, p53, bcl-2, Ki67 and CD44varV6 proteins in 79 epidermoid carcinomas of the lip, diagnosed and treated over a period of 20 years. The data obtained were subjected to uni- and multi-variate statistical analyses.

Bifid condyle: case report.

The double headed mandible condyle is a rare alteration that is frequently diagnosticated as an incidental finding in a panoramic radiograph. The different theories about its etiology are explained in this article. Symptoms described with bifid condyles vary from case to case, but in most instances are absent.
