Evaluating grease trap management practices: A case study from Seri Kembangan, Malaysia.

Sewerage blockages due to oil and grease deposition discharged from food premises remain a persistent issue globally. This study evaluates the degree of compliance of food premises in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, Malaysia with grease trap guideline, and investigates the factors affecting restaurants' compliance performance. Data were collected from 36 restaurants through a questionnaire-based interview consisting of questions about grease trap installation, operation, maintenance and waste disposal, followed by a walkthrough of the kitchen.

Bilateral Middle Cerebellar Peduncle Infarction Presenting With Vertigo and Hearing Impairment Mimicking Peripheral Vestibulopathy.

Bilateral middle cerebellar peduncle (MCP) infarction is a rare manifestation of ischemic stroke. We report a middle-aged male patient who presented with acute onset of vertigo, left ear deafness, and severe ataxia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain confirmed the presence of infarction in the bilateral middle cerebellar peduncles due to stenosis of the posterior circulation arteries.

Novel Insights into Cr(VI)-Induced Rhamnolipid Production and Gene Expression in RW9 for Potential Bioremediation.

Rhamnolipid (RL) is renowned for its efficacy in bioremediating several types of organic and metal contaminants. Nevertheless, there has been a scarcity of studies specifically examining the relationship between this substance and metals, especially in terms of their impact on RL formation and the underlying interaction processes. This study addresses this gap by investigating the RL mechanism in Cr (VI) remediation and evaluating its effect on RL production in RW9.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of Pilates exercise on the quality of life, functional capacity, cancer-related fatigue, depression and salivary cortisol of colorectal cancer survivors.

Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study which was conducted at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. The intervention group performed Pilates exercises with a certified Pilates instructor for eight weeks via online streaming from the participants' homes.

Objective: Antiretroviral therapy has decreased the prevalence of retinal opportunistic infections in people living with HIV (PLWH). However, abnormalities in visual function are evident and may be associated with an early onset of aging in PLWH. In this study, we examined the Retinal Nerve Fibre Layer (RNFL) thickness and visual function in PLWH and HIV non-infected controls in Malaysia.

Placenta accreta, one of the morbidly adherent placenta components and currently known as placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), is a condition characterized by abnormal adherence of the placenta to the uterine wall. It is a failure of placenta separation during the third stage of labor, which is thought to be high prevalence in those with previous cesarean delivery, especially with the presence of placenta previa.

Performance of fern protein hydrolysates as an emulsifier and nutraceutical ingredient in an O/W emulsion system and their effect on human gut microbiota and mammalian cells.

This study investigated the dual potential of fern protein hydrolysates (AFPHs) as functional and nutraceutical ingredients in an oil/water emulsion system. The AFPH-stabilised emulsion (AFPH-E) displayed a small and uniform droplet distribution and was stable to aggregation and creaming over a wide range of pH (5-8), salt concentrations ≤ 100 mM, and heat treatment ≤ 70 °C. Besides, the AFPH-E possessed and maintained strong biological activities, including antihypertensive, antidiabetic, and antioxidant, under different food processing conditions (pH 5-8; NaCl: 50-150 mM, and heat treatment: 30-100 °C).

CNCs are intensively studied to reinforce biocomposites. However, it remains a challenge to homogeneously disperse the CNC in biocomposites for a smooth film surface. Mechanochemical treatment via ultrasonication in deep eutectic solvent (DES) generated a stable dispersion of CNC before incorporation into carrageenan biocomposite.

Background And Purpose: There is increasing evidence that the anterior visual pathways are involved in neurodegenerative diseases including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease (PD). This study investigated longitudinal changes in retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in patients with ALS and PD with the aim of better understanding their roles as biomarkers of disease progression.

Methods: This study recruited 21 ALS patients, 19 age-matched PD patients, and 21 agematched healthy controls.

Since the introduction of the cultivated meat burger in 2013, numerous discussions have transpired between researchers and consumers, manifesting in various forms such as academic publications, opinions on personal websites and interactions on social platforms. For Muslim consumers, a primary concern revolves around the halal status of cultivated meat, given the pivotal role of adhering to a halal diet as a divine obligation in their lives. Therefore, this article seeks to systematically review the existing literature on cultivated meat from an Islamic perspective as articulated by Muslim scholars, whether these perspectives are issued by an established fatwa organisation or representations of personal views.

Revealing metabolic and biochemical variations via H NMR metabolomics in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats treated with metformin.

The increasing prevalence of lean diabetes has prompted the generation of animal models that mimic metabolic disease in humans. This study aimed to determine the optimum streptozotocin-nicotinamide (STZ-NA) dosage ratio to elicit lean diabetic features in a rat model. It also used a proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) urinary metabolomics approach to identify the metabolic effect of metformin treatment on this novel rat model.

When brakes fail you: Oculocardiac reflex elicited by a retained foreign body in a penetrating orbital injury.

Purpose: To report a case of oculocardiac reflex following penetrating orbital injury with entrapment of extraocular muscle secondary to a retained orbital foreign body.

Observation: A 19-year-old man with no known comorbidities presented with a foreign object in his right orbit following a motor vehicle accident. Visual acuity was 20/20 bilaterally with positive relative afferent pupillary defect for the right eye.

Background Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common and potentially life-threatening complication in patients with lower limb traumatic fractures. Orthopaedic patients who experience trauma in the lower limbs with prolonged immobilization may experience a hypercoagulable state, which could eventually lead to the development of VTE. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the changes in hypercoagulable markers, including haemostatic, inflammatory, and haematological biomarkers in orthopaedic trauma patients with prolonged immobilization.

Background Prolonged immobilization is widely recognized as a risk factor for thromboembolism. In this prospective study, we investigated the changes in clot waveform analysis (CWA) parameters in prolonged immobilized patients following lower limb trauma. CWA is an advanced method for assessing global coagulation that involves continuously monitoring changes in light transmittance, absorbance, or light scattering during routine clotting tests.
