Background: Rhinological procedures demand a high degree of technical expertise and anatomical knowledge. Because of limited surgical opportunities, ethical considerations and the complexity of these procedures, simulation-based training has become increasingly important. Adult-Type Rhabdomyoma of the Larynx in Birt-Hogg-Dubé Syndrome: Evidence for a Real Association.

The autosomal dominant Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome is known to be associated with skin, lung and kidney lesions. It is caused by heterozygous germline mutations in the folliculin gene and has a high penetrance. We report the case of a 51 year old woman with Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome who presented with a laryngeal mass.

Radiological features for the approach in trans-sphenoidal pituitary surgery.

Introduction: In order to perform trans-sphenoidal endoscopic pituitary surgery safely and efficiently it is important to identify anatomical and pituitary disease features on the pre-operative CT and MRI scans; thereby minimising the risk to surrounding structures and optimising outcomes. We aim to create a checklist to streamline pre-operative planning.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed pre-operative CT and MRI scans of 100 adults undergoing trans-sphenoidal endoscopic pituitary surgery.

How to do it: the difficult thyroid.

There is a paucity of publications detailing how to deal with the difficult thyroid cancer. When compared to other cancers, it is relatively rare with several histopathological subtypes which run differing clinical courses and respond to different therapies. It is a condition predominately treated by specifically trained General and now ENT surgeons who already have a thorough knowledge of vocal fold assessment and rehabilitation as well as emergency airways management both to avoid and treat common complications should they occur.
