Self-reported prevalence of obesity among 20,329 adults from large territories of Greece, Serbia and Turkey.

The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of overweight, obesity and body mass index (BMI) distribution in people living in large territories of Greece, Serbia and Turkey. A cross-sectional multi-national epidemiological survey was designed on the basis of self-reported information on height and weight using the formula kg/m2. Overall, 20,329 individuals, aged 20-68 yrs, 8,973 males and 11,356 females, participated in the study.

Objective: Numerous studies have found elevated androgen production by the adrenal glands in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, the role and the mechanisms responsible for the adrenal androgen excess in women with PCOS are not well understood.

Design: Our aim was to compare 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP), androstenedione, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and cortisol responses to a low dose (1 microg) ACTH stimulation test (LDT) with the responses to a standard dose (250 microg) ACTH stimulation test (SDT) in patients with PCOS.

High prevalence of diabetes in patients with pancreatic cancer in central Anatolia, Turkey.

Tumor-induced pancreatic damage or insulin resistance may be responsible for diabetes in pancreatic cancer (PC) patients, but the exact cause of association remains controversial. In this study, we aimed to investigate the prevalence of diabetes in patients with PC in central Anatolia, Turkey, and to evaluate whether diabetes is caused by PC. A total of 40 patients with primary PC were enrolled in the study.
