We report the genomic analysis from early equine cases of the Western equine encephalitis virus outbreak during 2023-2024 in Uruguay. Sequences are related to a viral isolate from an outbreak in 1958 in Argentina. A viral origin from South America or continuous enzootic circulation with infrequent spillover is possible.

Our research adopts a conscientious approach to environmental stewardship by synergistically employing eco-friendly silver nanoparticles, synthesized using extract as a biogenic reducing agent, in conjunction with Mexican zeolite to enhance contaminant remediation, particularly targeting Cu ions. Structural analysis, utilizing X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution scanning and transmission electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), yields crucial insights into nanocomposite structure and morphology.

In 2022, the high pathogenicity avian influenza virus (H5N1) spread to South America, resulting in the loss of thousands of wild birds, including endangered species, and severely impacting the global poultry industry.
Objectives: We analyzed the complete genomes of influenza viruses obtained from wild birds and backyard poultry in Uruguay between February and May 2023.
Parastomal hernia in patientswith ileal urinary diversion is insufficiently described in theliterature, and among its complications, the presence ofurinary obstruction is not usually reported. METHODS: We present a 74-year-old male with a Brickertype urinary diversion. He presented urinary infections withCT scan showing hydronephrosis with obstruction of theileal conduit probably related to a parastomal hernia.

There is a need to find a simple scale in order to identify patients with increased risk of developing major post-operative complications after pancreatic resections. Many studies have been published on sarcopenia and surgical outcomes.

However, precisely controlled synthesis with uniform Pt-monolayers and stability on the AuNPs seeds remain elusive. Herein, we report the controlled deposition of Pt-monolayer onto uniform AuNPs seeds to obtain Au@Pt core-shell NPs and their Pt-coverage dependent electrocatalytic activity for methanol electro-oxidation.

The increase of the hydrophobicity in a hybrid coating is a new challenge, for that reason and in order to protect a metallic surface of oxidant agents, a poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) coating with the addition of a different amount of silicon dioxide (SiO) was developed. The hybrid coating was applied on a sample of stainless steel AISI 304 by the dip-coating method.

Method: all patients that underwent cholecystectomy at the Service of Digestive Diseases and General Surgery of the Hospital Universitario de Guadalajara between January 2011 and December 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who underwent cholecystectomy and were readmitted to any hospital service within 90 days of surgery were included.

Background: Liver metastases emerge during the course of colorectal cancer (CRC) in 25-50% of patients. A small proportion of patients present intrabiliary growth. The absence of large series means that little is known about intrabiliary metastasis (IBM), its radiological diagnosis, the most suitable surgical techniques, and its prognostic implications.

Methods: We selected the five journals with the highest impact in 2015: Annals of Surgery, British Journal of Surgery, JAMA Surgery, Surgery, and Journal of the American College of Surgeons. In January 2017, using the Web of Science application, we performed a search of all articles published by these journals and identified the 100 most cited articles (top 100).

Objectives: This study aimed to identify factors that explain the association of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (IPMNs-PNETs), radiological characteristics, and factors that might guide therapy.
Methods: We performed a systematic review of the literature to search for articles on concurrent IPMN-PNET, mixed endocrine-exocrine pancreatic tumors, and/or PNET with an intraductal growth pattern.
Results: A review of the literature suggests that there is some confusion about association of IPMNs-PNETs.
Engineering of nanoparticle (NP) surfaces offers an effective approach for the development of enzymatic biosensors or microbial fuel cells with a greatly enhanced direct electron transport process. However, lack of control over the surface functionalization process and the operational instability of the immobilized enzymes are serious issues. Herein, we demonstrate a facile and green deep eutectic solvent (DES)-mediated synthetic strategy for efficient amine-surface functionalization of silicon dioxide and to integrate small gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for a glucose biosensor.

Background: Cystic echinococcosis is a zoonosis caused by larvae of the parasite Echinococcus that is endemic in many countries of the Mediterranean area. It can affect any organ, with the most common sites being liver (70%) and lung (20%). Splenic hydatid disease, despite being rare, is the third most common location.

They are usually painless, wellcircumscribed, mobile and with no adherence to skin or muscle, composed of varying amounts of fat, glandular and fibrous tissue. Mammary hamartoma has been classically considered as an underdiagnosed pathology, but with the increasing use of diagnostic procedures in breast tumours, the number of hamartomas has increased in the last years.
