[The evaluation of science].

The evaluation and quantification of scientific activity is an extremely complex task. Evaluation of research results is often difficult, and different indicators for the quantification and evaluation of scientific publications have been identified, as well as the development and success of the training programs of researchers.

[The Revista Médica del IMSS in the 2017 Healthcare Book Fair].

On August, the second edition of the Healthcare Book Fair took place, sponsored by the Facultad de Medicina of UNAM. Again, the Revista Médica del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social participated with a stand where we promoted it, talked about the different indexes where our journal is included, explained its objective and scope, and finally talked about its nature as an open access journal, which is aimed to the clinical staff of the different health institutions of our country.

[The ENARM and the schools and faculties of medicine. An analysis that nobody will like].

In Mexico, the career of Doctor of Medicine has been considered as a prerequisite stage to access the specialization. Of course the majority of medical graduates aspire to undertake postgraduate courses in the different institutions that have a university program. The Examen Nacional de Aspirantes a Residencias Médicas (ENARM) (National Evaluation for Medical Residency Applicants) has become for the supporters a gap between the possibility of practicing the profession in a decent way and with a regular remuneration or exercising it in very limited conditions and with low economic income or even without exercising it.

[Why a degree of speciality instead of a Master's?].

It was at the beginning of the last century, in the hospitals where most of the attention was given, when it was established the habit of admitting apprentices as members of the medical team. However, it was not clearly established how aspirants were admitted, how their learning was to be developed, or what their functions were.

[The dissertation as a final product of a specialty in medicine].

Submitting a written report of a research proyect, also known as dissertation (or thesis), is one of the requirements established by academic institutions for the student to achieve the degree of specialist in medicine. Preparing the dissertation is not only an academic challenge for postgraduate students and professors; it is also a logistical challenge. Highlighting that effort and the dissertation itself will result in a better attention for the beneficiaries of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social.

[Emergency obstetric causes and Immediate Response Team in a secondary hospital].

Background: The aim of this work is to describe the causes of the obstetric emergency, which motivates the activation of the Immediate Response Team at a second level hospital of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, which has not an Intensive Care Unit for Adult Patients.

Methods: Retrospective observational study of the causes of obstetric emergency that occurred in the domains of Admission, Hospitalization, Labor, Delivery Room, Operating Room and Recovery of the Hospital General de Zona 53 of the IMSS, during the years 2014 and 2015.

Results: In 2014, were attended 3915 women due to obstetric cause; of them, 75 cases were of obstetric emergency and 3276 live births.

[The Journals role in continuing medical education].

In the 19th century, the first journals in medicine appeared in order to disseminate knowledge among creators and discoverers, but especially among users of knowledge, some of these journals continue to be published nowadays. Subsequently, an organization that initially aspired to collect, sort, archive and distribute the publications: the Index Medicus. Over time, it was imperative to create indexes that measure the performance of journals and with that of researchers.

[The importance of thesis in specialization courses in Medicine].

The development of a thesis goes far beyond a mere compliance with the methodological requirements and evidence that students have sufficient knowledge that the profession demands. A thesis is usually the first academic and research work that students publish, it is also the result of commitment and dedication to the field of medicine in which they will be developing, which reflects motivations and interests, as well as their reflection to a specific problem.

[The diffusion of knowledge].

Between August 19 and 21, the Feria del Libro de las Ciencias de la Salud (Healthcare Book Fair) took place in the Palacio de Medicina in Mexico City. Archives of Medical Research, Revista Médica del IMSS, and Saber IMSS, three of the main instruments of knowledge diffusion of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, assisted to this book fair, which was organized by the Facultad de Medicina of UNAM.

[Where internists work?].

For health institutions, knowing the fate of human resources within their classrooms is an extremely complicated task. Within the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, where most specialists are trained in our country, with a clear orientation towards the pursuit of excellence and satisfaction of their needs human resources for health in Mexico is provided, hence the need to identify the professional profile and career destination of its graduates, which will be useful in the training of human resources for health.

[The IMSS and the CONRICyT].

In this editorial we make a review of the way the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) has established a relation between knowledge and its healthworkers to improve patient care. We also mention the agreement that IMSS and CONRICyT (National Consortium of Scientific and Technological Information Resources, according to its initials in Spanish) signed in 2013 to keep promoting knowledge among its workers.

[XII National Forum on Health Education].

In Guadalajara, on August 19, 20 and 21 was held the XII Foro Nacional de Educación en Salud, in line with the interest that both, the Dirección General and the Dirección de Prestaciones Médicas of the IMSS, have in training and updating the human resources for the care of the beneficiaries. The Unidad de Educación, Investigación y Políticas de Salud organized a meeting in which the actors of these tasks, the institutional staff and authorities from various universities worked together with the IMSS.

[Innovation].

Of all the animals, the human being is the only one capable of making processes leading to the development of new tools and methodologies changing the course of nature for their own and others' benefit. These improvements have been also given, of course, in the field of medicine, where the research made by thousands of people have been favored by the advance of new technologies, procedures and substances, that while intended to achieve the welfare of patients also seek to achieve a higher profit margin.

[Neuroethics].

Neuroethics emerged as a discipline in 2012 after a World Congress organized by the Stanford University, the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), and sponsored by the Dana Foundation. It has emerged with great force and an important interdisciplinary approach between science and philosophy. Its most relevant lines of action are the study of the ethical consequences of neuroscience research and clinical interventions; as well as the biological factors of human behavior or conduct.

[About breast cancer and mammography].

The development of health public politics is not easy and requires a long time to be established and evaluated the most of the times. There are a lot of determiners that influence on results. An example is the rule that is looking for identification of non palpable lesions in breast through the practicing a mammography with the goal of decreasing mortality on a health problem in Mexico and worldwide: breast cancer.

[The knowledge diffusion as an educational tool].

To disseminate knowledge, several instruments have been used, among them periodicals. Since the 1960s, the impact factor has been used to rate the importance of journals, and simultaneously, the work of researchers. In this paper we propose to evaluate journals, in addition to the impact factor, through their circulation, readership size, print runs, and internet access.
