Findings on serial thigh MRI can identify individuals with inflammatory myositis who recover sub-optimally: A 6-month follow-up study.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the thigh is used in diagnosis of idiopathic inflammatory myositis (IIM) diagnosis due to its high sensitivity in detecting muscle oedema and to localize the site for muscle biopsy. At the same time, dual energy absorptiometry (DXA) is an accepted method in clinical practice to measure muscle mass and change in body composition. In this longitudinal study of patients with active IIM we sought to correlate muscle findings on serial thigh MRI and body composition assessed using DXA with six-month clinical outcomes, we also studied correlation of thigh MRI scores with body composition parameters.

Correlation of Preoperative Radiological Factors with Histological Involvement of Thyroid Gland in Laryngeal Carcinomas.

Total laryngectomy is the primary treatment for locally advanced laryngeal carcinomas. However, routine thyroid removal (total or hemithyroidectomy) during this procedure is controversial, as the incidence of thyroid gland involvement varies and may lead to lifelong thyroid supplementation, increasing postoperative morbidity. The lack of a consensus on managing the thyroid gland in laryngeal carcinoma cases necessitates improved evaluation techniques, with radiology playing a crucial role in this aspect.

Radiological parameters to predict pancreatic texture: Current evidence and future perspectives.

Preoperative prediction of the postoperative pancreatic fistula risk is critical in the current era of minimally invasive pancreatic surgeries to tailor perioperative management, thereby minimizing postoperative morbidity. Pancreatic duct diameter can be readily measured by any routine imaging used to diagnose pancreatic disease. However, radiological evaluation of pancreatic texture, an important determinant of pancreatic fistula, has not been widely used to predict the risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula.

Negative impact on bone homeostasis in postmenopausal women with non-metastatic breast cancer during cytotoxic chemotherapy.

Introduction: The burden and mechanisms of endocrine therapy-related bone loss are well known, while there are limited data on chemotherapy-induced bone resorption. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of cytotoxic chemotherapy on bone homeostasis among postmenopausal women with non-metastatic breast cancer.

Materials And Methods: Early and locally advanced postmenopausal non-metastatic breast cancer patients aged 45 to 65 planned for three cycles of anthracycline and four cycles of taxane chemotherapy administered along with dexamethasone (cumulative dose-256 mg) as an antiemetic from June 2018 to December 2021 were included.

Semi-quantitative thigh magnetic resonance imaging scores in assessing disease activity and determining long-term clinical outcome in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: a causal mediation analysis.

Objectives: To evaluate the relationship of thigh MRI (t-MRI) with manual muscle testing-8 (MMT-8), muscle enzymes and autoantibodies. To determine the causal and mediating factors resulting in poor recovery of MMT-8 in inflammatory myositis (IIM).

Methods: This was a single-centre retrospective study in IIM patients.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic role of acoustic radiation force impulse imaging (ARFI) in differentiating benign and malignant cervical nodes.

Methods: This was a diagnostic accuracy cross-sectional study. All patients who underwent ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of cervical nodes were included.

Comparison of cardiac autonomic function across complete glycaemic spectrum.

Objectives: Autonomic imbalance is attributed as key mechanism altering metabolic regulation in diabetes mellitus. In view of controversial reports on autonomic function in FDRD and prediabetes, we aimed to assess and compare the autonomic function across the complete glycaemic spectrum in Indian population.

Methods: Short term heart rate variability and cardiac autonomic reactivity tests - blood pressure and heart rate response to orthostatic tolerance and deep breathing exercise, and diastolic response to isometric handgrip exercise were recorded in normoglycemic apparently healthy individual, normoglycemic first degree relatives of diabetes, prediabetes and diabetes individuals.

Evaluation of change in tumor stiffness measured by acoustic radiation force impulse imaging for early prediction of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer.

Objectives: In this study, the role of change in tumor stiffness between pre- and post-two cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) measured by Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) imaging for predicting the response to NACT in breast cancer was analyzed.

Methods: Fifty-two adult women with biopsy-proven locally advanced breast cancer and early-stage breast cancer who received NACT followed by either modified radical mastectomy or breast conservation surgery were included in the study. Tumor stiffness represented by shear wave velocity (SWV) in meter per second by ARFI imaging was measured before and after two cycles of NACT.

Managing pregnancy in women with Sturge-Weber syndrome: case report and review of the literature.

Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a sporadic congenital neuro-cutaneous anomaly with capillary-venous malformation involving the brain, eye, and the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve. In these cases, physiological changes in pregnancy, including hormonal and hemodynamic changes, may predispose to increased seizure frequency and even a life-threatening intracranial haemorrhage. There are only few case reports available about the management of women with pregnancy and SWS.

Factors associated with high cardiovascular risk in psoriatic arthritis and non-psoriatic spondyloarthritis.

To identify the association between traditional cardiovascular risk factors, diseases related factors, body composition and adipokines with high cardiovascular risk (HCVR) in psoriatic arthritis and non-psoriatic spondyloarthritis. This was a cross-sectional study involving age and BMI matched adults with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) (n = 56) and non-psoriatic spondyloarthritis (nPsA-SpA) (n = 58). Body composition using whole-body dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, adipokines and disease characteristics along with cardiovascular risk scoring QRISK3 and carotid intimal medial thickness (CIMT) was collected.

Adjuvant radiotherapy in a case of atypical meningioma after gross total resection: an unresolved issue.

We present a case of a 48-year-old man diagnosed with parasagittal atypical meningioma (AM) involving biparietal bones with intracranial and extracranial extension up to galea aponeurotica of the scalp. The patient underwent Simpson's grade 2 resection (GTR (gross total tumour resection) with coagulation of dural attachment). Currently, in AMs, the role of adjuvant radiotherapy is controversial after GTR.

Liver Abnormalities in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Prospective Observational Study.

Objectives In this study, we aimed to examine and analyze liver abnormalities among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), including both newly diagnosed patients and those being followed up, as well as the prevalence of lupus hepatitis. Methods This was a prospective observational study. Clinical data, liver function tests (LFTs), and the findings from the ultrasonography of the abdomen among the patients were prospectively recorded and evaluated.

Bowel Arteriovenous Malformation: An Unusual Cause of Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding in a Child.

In a child, lower gastrointestinal tract bleeding can be attributed to different etiologies. Unusually, the presence of bowel arteriovenous malformations can lead to multiple bouts of painless bright red bleeding per rectum, which develop into severe anemia. The article focuses on the diagnosis and management of bowel arteriovenous malformation in a child.

Comparison of Epicardial Fat Volume between Patients with Normal Perfusion and Reversible Perfusion Abnormalities on Myocardial Perfusion Imaging.

Purpose Of The Study: Our study purpose was to compare the epicardial fat volume (EFV) in myocardial perfusion imaging single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (MPI SPECT/CT) with normal and abnormal perfusion in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease (CAD).

Materials And Methods: one hundred and seventy-six patients (88 records with normal and 88 with reversible perfusion defects) underwent physical or adenosine stress with Tc-99m MIBI followed by SPECT and low-dose CT for attenuation correction. Rest MPI was done in patients showing perfusion defects on stress imaging.

The strength of cytomorphology and efficacy of immuno-cytochemistry in distinguishing hepatocellular carcinoma from its mimics on fine-needle aspiration cytology.

Background: Cytomorphologic distinction of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) from its mimics on fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is often problematic. The present study evaluates the strength of cytomorphology and the utility of an immuno-panel of arginase-1, glypican-3, HepPar-1, thyroid transcription factor (TTF-1) and CK-19 in resolving this diagnostic issue.

Methods: FNAC features of 71 nodular hepatic lesions were studied with an immunocyto/ histochemical (ICC/IHC) panel of arginase-1, glypican-3, HepPar-1, TTF-1 taking 10% positivity as "cut-off.

Assessment of vascular function in complete glycaemic spectrum.

The present study was conceived to delineate the point of vascular dysfunction along the glycemic spectrum (normoglycemic individuals with no family history of diabetes, normoglycemic individuals with family history of diabetes, prediabetic individuals, and diabetic individuals). In this cross-sectional comparative study, we enrolled 252 participants of both gender in the age group of 30-50 years. They were classified based on their family history of diabetes and glycemic status into four groups along the glycemic spectrum as mentioned above.

Diagnostic role of shear wave elastography for differentiating benign and malignant breast masses.

Background: Use of B-mode ultrasound (US) may not obviate the need for diagnosis by histopathology, which is an invasive technique and remains the gold standard. These limitations are being overcome with the advent of shear wave elastography (SWE).

Objectives: To assess the diagnostic role of SWE parameters and combined SWE and B-mode US in diagnosing malignant breast lesions.

Acute kidney injury in patients hospitalized with febrile urinary tract infections: A prospective observational study.

Background: Febrile urinary tract infection (fUTI) can be associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). We aimed to study the risk factors for AKI, its pathophysiological categories, and the role of urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) in differentiating these categories in patients hospitalized with fUTI.

Materials And Methods: We prospectively studied patients with fUTI admitted to the Department of Medicine of a tertiary care hospital in southern India from January 2017 to December 2018.

Association of plasma docetaxel levels with ABCB1 gene polymorphisms and tumour response in locally advanced breast cancer patients of South India on neo-adjuvant chemotherapy.

Background: Genetic factors could be attributed to the variability in docetaxel plasma levels and its subsequent therapeutic response. The objectives of this study were to assess the effect of ABCB1 gene polymorphisms [SNPs rs1045642 (C3435T) and rs1128503 (C1236T)] on docetaxel plasma levels and also to analyze the influence of docetaxel plasma levels on tumour response in the ethnically distinct South Indian population.

Methods: 104 locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) patients on docetaxel-based neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) were included.
