A 21-year-old male laborer sustained bilateral degloving injury of the hands with multiple digital amputations and devascularized digits. After X-rays, preliminary debridement was done, when digital amputations were completed, including index ray amputation on both sides. The next day, two anterolateral thigh (ALT) flaps and one second toe transfer were done to restore coverage in the palm and the web and reconstruct the lost thumb.

The signaling pathways activated following interaction between dendritic cells (DCs) and a pathogen determine the polarization of effector T-cell and regulatory T-cell (Treg) responses to the infection. Several recent studies, mostly in the context of bacterial infections, have shown that the Wnt/β-catenin pathway plays a major role in imparting tolerogenic features in DCs and in promotion of Treg responses. However, the significance of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway's involvement in regulating the immune response to the fungal species is not known.

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is used to treat several autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, but some patients are refractory to IVIG and require alternative treatments. Identifying a biomarker that could segregate IVIG responders from non-responders has been a subject of intense research. Unfortunately, previous transcriptomic studies aimed at addressing IVIG resistance have failed to predict a biomarker that could identify IVIG-non-responders.

Therapeutic normal IgG intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is a well-established first-line immunotherapy for many autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Though several mechanisms have been proposed for the anti-inflammatory actions of IVIG, associated signaling pathways are not well studied. As β-catenin, the central component of the canonical Wnt pathway, plays an important role in imparting tolerogenic properties to dendritic cells (DCs) and in reducing inflammation, we explored whether IVIG induces the β-catenin pathway to exert anti-inflammatory effects.

Autophagy plays an important role in the regulation of autoimmune and autoinflammatory responses of the immune cells. Defective autophagy process is associated with various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Moreover, in many of these diseases, the therapeutic use of normal immunoglobulin G or intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), a pooled normal IgG preparation, is well documented.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by cerebral deposition of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides, which are generated from amyloid precursor protein (APP) by β- and γ-secretases. APP and the secretases are membrane associated, but whether membrane trafficking controls Aβ levels is unclear. Here, we performed an RNAi screen of all human Rab-GTPases, which regulate membrane trafficking, complemented with a Rab-GTPase-activating protein screen, and present a road map of the membrane-trafficking events regulating Aβ production.

The degradation of 2chloro-5methyl phenol (2C-5MP) in aqueous solution by ultrasonication (US) in the presence of TiO(2) and H(2)O(2) has been studied. Maximum degradation rate of 2.66 x 10(-2) was achieved by US/TiO(2)/H(2)O(2) process when compared to US/TiO(2) (1.

A consensus has been emerging among public health experts in developing countries that air pollution, even at current ambient levels, aggravates respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and leads to premature mortality. Recent studies have also presented well-founded theories concerning the biological mechanisms involved and the groups of people that are probably more susceptible to health effects caused or exacerbated by inhalation of ambient particulate matter (PM.).
